    Hi Fellow mommies,

Breast feeding is an important phase in the motherhood where the infant gets all the essentials he/she requires. Breastfeeding also helps a mother bond with her new born baby. World Breastfeeding Week for 2015 is celebrated from 1[SUP]st[/SUP] of August to 7[SUP]th[/SUP] of August. The theme of 2015 would be “Breastfeeding and Work – Let’s Make it Work!”

Physical contact is important to newborns and can help them feel more secure, warm and at comfort which is provided during breast feeding. Breast milk has agents (called antibodies) in it to help protect infants from bacteria and viruses and to help them in fighting infection and disease. Breastfed babies are less subject to lower respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, ear infections and septicemia. The rates of constipation and diarrhea are lower in breast-fed children.

Breast feeding not only helps the little one but also helps the women by lowering the chances of breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Nursing uses up extra calories, making it easier to lose the pounds gained during pregnancy. It also helps the uterus to get back to its original size more quickly and lessens any bleeding a woman may suffer post child birth.

Hope the below Breast Feeding Guide helps too..

    Tips for the day:
    • Try to massage before starting to feed the baby. That will increase blood circulation to breasts.
    • Try to find a comfortable position for feeding where mother needs to be stable for another 10 or more minutes.
    • Before starting to feed, try to arrange bedding for infant as most of the time baby will fall into sleep by the end of feeding.
    • Try to pat the baby after feeding for few minutes or until baby burps.
    • Try to rest when baby is asleep. In early days the new mom will need more rest too.

Hope the experienced moms will share their special tips too and hope the new moms will find it useful.
Thanks for taking your time in reading this! :) Lets realize the importance of breast feeding!

These are some the instructions my elders especially grandmother gave me when I became a new mother.
1)We should always clean our breasts before each feed .

2)If you are going to feed the child after coming from office then massage breasts well, press nipples and remove the stagnant milk clean yourself and then start feeding the baby.

    Tips for the day:

    • Try fenugreek seeds and garlic for increased milk production as many new moms face lower milk supply in the initial few days.
    • Drink a glass full of water before feeding, that will help too.
    • Try to drink at least 3 full glass of milk. If anyone hates to consume milk, try calcium supplements at least. Take calcium supplements or milk until stopping breast feeding. That will save the mom.

    * Try to sit and feed baby as much as possible in earlier days especially.
*Make sure baby burp's after each feed to avoid throwing.
*Its good to take multivitamins .

    Tips for the day:

    • Don't force feed a sleeping baby as he/she has slept for longer hours. When baby is hungry, he/she will wake up from sleep. Sleep is more important too for the infants.
    • Try to avoid stress or tension before feeding as it brings inverse effects in milk production.
    • Never doubt your milk production by comparing with other kids or mother. Everyone is different, feeding cycles and demand are different. If the new mother starts to doubt milk supply, eventually milk supply reduces. Try to bring up confidence in you.

    Hi,

With my experience iam sharing few tips.

Consume more greens like leafy vegetables ,snakegourd, bitter gourd.

Eat small fish ,readmeat in minimal quantity which
    Increases milk productivity.

The more the baby sucks the more milk will generate. If baby taking time while breastfeeding don't think it's because of lack of supply.

Last but not least, tension free all the time.our happiness also plays main role.

Breastfeeding is not only a source of food for your LO but also a source of comfort.
Breastfeeding need not be stopped at 6 months. It can be continued until child chooses to self wean.
Breastfeeding is not painful. Ensure correct latch will ensure comfort for both mom and baby.

It is the best bonding experience for the mother and the new-born.
Learn about 'latching' by looking up all the resources available. Breast-feeding shouldnt be painful at all after about 3 weeks.
If you have any soreness or cracks, rub some breast-milk on the nipples after feeding the baby and let it air-dry. Its the best soother and medicine.
If you have good lactation, enquire about donating breast-milk, ask your nearest neo-natal hospital unit, they should help you.
Also, if you have good lactation, dont feel guilty about having to let off some milk if your breasts feel too engorged.

If you need tips for breast-feeding Pre-terms and premmies, dont hesitate to pm me.

    Enjoy your motherhood.

    Nice thread..

    - Exclusively BF should be given till baby completes 6 months.
    - Be stress free to maintain the supply.
    - On demand feeding increases the supply.
    - Night feeds are more important for babies development like warmness from mom makes them feel secured and many more things.
    - BF is the main nutritional food till baby turns 1yr.

In India , many parents insists on starting solid food earlier like when baby is three months old or even younger, irrespective of the point whether baby is ready for solids or not. If solids are started early, the weaning process starts along. So choose carefully when to start solids looking for signs from baby like baby eyeing our food or baby not full with the breastmilk, etc.
Six months breast feeding gives baby very good immunity which would help them life long.
Nursing pillow was another very big helping factor for me when I was a new mom. Saved me from my constant back pain. Hope these tips help someone.
