Pumping breast milk during a half marathon turned one runner into an inspiration

The woman, Anna Young, mother of a 5-month old child, took part in the half marathon. In the middle of the race, she slowed to a walk and pumped milk using a hand-operated breast pump. She completed the 13.1 mile race in an hour and 40 minutes. She's been lauded as an inspiration to breastfeeding women and to the cause of breastfeeding.

What do you think? Inspiration or overkill?

    I am leaning towards overkill.........

Overkill, IMO. But she clearly felt strongly about making a point.

Phew.. I was beginning to feel a little grinchy about my reaction to the dedicated runner.

I also read this news-story about a sport medicine doctor, who at 34 or 35 weeks pregnant, and husband out of town, childcare for their 3 yr old fell through.. so she took the child to work. So far so good... But, she had the child strapped to her back, and there is this picture of her attending to an athelete: 'You can have it all': Photo of pregnant doctor-mother at work goes viral

Again, all go gaga about the role model, combining motherhood and work, and work-life balance etc. I really wonder whether carrying a 3 yr old on the back is even a good idea when so pregnant. And does work or medical insurance from employer or own, even cover any injury arising due to such unconventional work style!

    1. Pumping , she could do even before starting the marathon. may be she that busy. May be her marathon cause is bringing "breast feeding" awareness
    2. May be she tied as 3 year old may run around and in the crowd she can't find easily. Looked at the pic, so I am thinking like this.

This reminds me of a picture I saw a while ago in the news, in the UK I think. A woman wanted to raise awareness of the difficulties poor women have in getting basic sanitary supplies. She ran a race while she had her period, without wearing pads or tampons and in a light colored shorts.

    I read the article.

    Running without a tampoon....Empowerment?????
Breast pumping in the middle of a marathon??
    Armpit hair showing...

I feel soo outdated these days to even understand and accept these as empowerment..
    I don't know anymore..:(
