Death of a 6 year old Shruthi, due to negligence.

Shruthi, a student of ZION MATRICULATION School, Chennai was crushed to death by her own school bus rear wheel in which she travelled back home. There was a hole in the sixth row of the school bus for quite sometime which has been confirmed by many students who travel in the same bus. It was just covered with just a sheet of plywood and a big stone over it.

On the fateful day, when the bus took a turn the plywood moved and Shruthi slipped through the hole and got crushed in the rear wheels of the same bus.

The heights of the incident is "the Bus which had a hole was given FITNESS CERTIFICATE to ply for school children only a week back".

There are many such incidents happening everywhere, but somehow it doesn't come to light, those tricks the managements know how to handle.

But here, the situation was different, the residents who noticed it along with others burnt the bus right away which made the authorities arrest the School Correspondent, Driver, Conductor, Outsourced Contractor, Transport authorities... 6 in all. Management of other schools while answering query for the media comments that Correspondent should not be arrested, since it was outsourced, isn't it unfair..

Blame game began, pointing fingers at each other, whatever it may be, Can the parents have the child back again...

May the soul rest in peace...

It could be a typical case of corruption or negligence when it comes to issuance of Fitness Certificate for the vehicle. This was portrayed in the movie INDIAN, where the vehicle inspectors take bribe without even inspecting the vehicle. Who knows it could be an identical instance translated to real life too.

It was so shocking to read this news. An innocent and charming life lost just because of sheer carelessness. What is the use of blame-game now when the life is lost?? The parents can never get their loved one back.

It is good and very right for all those people to burn down the bus and that is why quick action was taken. Lets see how much responsible can our schools be after this incident...in fact, why only school bus? All buses/vehicles meant for public transport should be aware

    Dear RKG Sister,

Hope the punishment given to the Six of them who were arrested should create some awareness and atleast knowing that someone is monitoring them, let the school authorities respect students' life as LIFE and be serious about everything.

    Dear Bunny Sister,

School Authorities who have outsourced the transport department have every right to check the worthiness, which has lead to death of an innocent child...

Now let this incident alert others, not to be only money minded and be serious about safety even before teaching...

    Thanks for dropping in...

    An Update:

So far, seven people have been arrested in connection with the incident. Among those arrested were School Correspondent N Vijayan, bus owner Yogeswaran, who had leased out the bus to school, bus driver Seeman, cleaner Shanmugham, Tamabram Motor Vehicles Inspector P Rajasekaran, who had given the fitness certificate for the defective bus 20 days before the incident, Ravi and Paulraj.

Both Ravi and Paulraj, who were part of the school management, were also relatives of Vijayan and they had had entered into a pact with the school for maintaining the buses. Mr Rajasekaran was also placed under suspension till the disposal of the case in the High court.

The petitioner also pleaded that murder charges should be slapped on authorities of the Zion Matriculation School, where Shruti has been studying, and the officials in RTO office ' which had issued the fitness certificate without inspecting the vehicle and all those responsible for her death. To this Advocate General Navaneethakrishanan said the government's reply would be filed on August nine. Accepting this, the Court adjourned the matter to that day.

    Hi....

Very sad to hear about this. An incident almost similar to the mentioned above happened in Bangalore few months back. The driver of the school van started the van even before the small boy could get down from the van.

According to rules there should be a helper in the school van to make sure the kids get into the vehicle and get down from the vehicle safely.

Parents should demand that their kids be provided safe transport.

Since most of the schools have the money power and political power they get away without any punishments.
