I have read India follows clean notes policy. What does it mean?

When I see some notes torn, dirty and scribblings on it, really my heart breaks. How much money is wasted to replace them !

Is it not bad to fold:bonk brand new notes as soon as drawn from ATMs for the purpose of fitting in the small purse or pocket?

Dear Iladies pls. share your ideas for clean notes.

    suriya,

So sweet, to feel bad about soiled notes..well i love the smell of crisp notes too.

RBI brought in clean note policy in 2002.

it was to bring out more clean notes, for the same all banks are prohibited from stapling of bank notes, tendering soiled notes to the Reserve Bank in unstapled condition, using bands instead of staple pins and to issue only clean notes to members of public. It also occasionally arranges to collect soiled and mutilated notes from public by going to market places.

But writing on notes, taking autograph, phone numbers on notes, and folding them as if they are practicing origami has to be stopped by the public.
