Iam not dieting but having whole grain foods, veggies and fruits and trying to avoid processed food to 0 occurance each day.

I eat fruits/cucumber/carrots/boiled lentils when i feel hungry or for snacks.

But sometimes i feel bored of all these stuff and crave for salty food(if i eat fruits often) and end up eating chips/other store bought items(even though the items that are present at home is less)

So please give me your suggestions for foods that i can have before hand to handle hunger.

I could think of salad as an option.Do give me other options.

    Thanks.

Nuts, hummus, boiled beans (keep beans and make a quick salad using tomato, onion, etc.), milk, sourdough bread with butter (not margarine; margarine is very unhealthy) or olive/cold-pressed flax oil stored in the frig. +black pepper+salt; cheese, cottage cheese, off the top of my mind.

Really good thread.. I am also fighting this food craving problem, esp during monthly routines

carrots and apple come to the rescue first..
    then mixed nuts and raisins..
Though my hunger will be satisfied by this way, sadly my mind will not!
I gobble upon processed oily or creamy food finally :(

some tips to avoid craving which I learnt on the web and from friends
    - brushing teeth to stop over eating
    - sipping through a glass of hot/lemon water
    - counting the minutes up to which we can resist eating the junk

snacks I make often for the sweet and salty tooth
    - ragi pakoda in oven without oil
    - ragi jaggery steamed balls

Thankyou LakshmiMohan and GSAnusha.I just took sometime today to prepare a salad with carrot, cucumber, spinach and hummus and kept it in the fridge. With a toddler at home i usually grab foods that i have in store in fridge and if nothing interesting then i go for chips and stuff like that. But from now on decided to keep some salads and soups handy. Thanks for inspiring and motivating me.

GSAnusha-I used to make ragi muffins with banana, jaggery and whole wheat flour. Can you give me the recipe of how to make ragi pakoda in oven so that i can also make it and keep?

1.How about Avocado with lemon/lime juice or Greek yogurt dressing. ( i find it very satisfying). pepper optional.

    2. home made popcorn.

    Procedure:

Things needed: 1/2 cup corn kernels,
i tsp coconut oil (substitute for butter),
    pinch of turmeric powder,
    pinch of chill power,
    salt (optional).

mix it together in a brown paper bag and seal it with tape, microwave 2 min or till the popping sound stops..

fresh fruit like strawberries, cut up with yoghurt - I like the greek yoghurt that can be bought in stores now.

    celery and hommous
cottage cheese with chopped onions, fresh coriander and if chopped green chillies
carrot sticks with low fat sour cream - with some onion soup powder mixed in
low fat cream cheese mixed with low fat mayonnaise and low fat sour cream - as a dip
