    Swimming i think is very tiry and any other physical activity with that will not go very well. Music you can go with and can find the right kind as per your child's interest.

    Explore few activities. At a time try 2 or 3 activity only for few months. One sports one music and one arts. Continue if the kid is interested or change the activity if kid is not.

    Taekwondo is good.

    Taekwondo has many positive benefits. Teaches self respect, less aggression, self control.

    How many of them have put their daughters in Bharat Natyam.I have learnt classical dance myself for five years but I feel
    If one pursues classical dance,it should be solid.Everyone is putting their kids in classical dance but how much they use it in the future??

    Music,piano and guitar people play when they feel low and it makes
    One feel Good.even dance like Zumba etc is like aerobics but classical dance..how much is it useful?

    Anika, I love classical Bharatnatyam. I had the opportunity to learn for just one year and when I had to pick music or dance in high school I picked music. If only I had proper guidance with my passion I could have explored more.

    Anyway wherever there is a dance performance I make it a point to go. Unlike in our times now there are many performances events fundraisers where bharatnatyam students have opportunity to perform even after college. They need to be in touch with the performance group. If the kid has passion they will find a way to stay in touch.

    Who told kids play instruments when they feel low ?
    It is other way around. I know lot of kids who hate the instrument they play because parents make them practice so much and they also take exams every year. At this allow your kid to try different things and then make decision.

    It can be a hobby .. the classical dance gives good posture ..confidence let her participate in stage dance.. if u want ask her to join the swim competition ..I do agree we have to give a push and also see if there is benefits of it too..

    tekewando - It gives self-confidence, it helps the kid to stand up for himself/herself.
    Self defense will be very helpful.

    1-musical instrument, 1-sports would help for middle-school / high school activity.

    In middle school, everyone plays some sort of musical instrument. if they are good,
    will be included for the school marching band....depends on the instrument.

    School band marching during memorial day is one of the most anticipated event
    in public schools. It gives a sense of belonging, part of the school...a big event.

    High school league - for sports activity.

    Most Indian kids play tennis (expensive), milder than other sports.
    My son started his tennis lesson in 4th grade on wards and played
    for his high school league.

    I would say dancing, not because it may or may not come in use in the future, but because it makes a dancer graceful, piosed and improves the posture naturally for life. Im speaking from experience
