Finished Martian. Any suggestions for what to read? Something light and funny I think.

Also, avoid unmarriageable ! I foolishly keep trying out books which are rewrites of pride and prejudice and none of them recreate the Liz bennet -- Mt.Darcy magic. But I keep trying.

Currently Reading SHERLOCK HOLMES THE MISSING YEARS By Jamyang Norbu -- I don't know when I will finish :BangHead:
Since school I used to love Sherlock Holmes .. Did quite a good reading in college and before marriage..After marriage and after kids my books were gone under the boxes. Now started again I love to continue .. I will see.

But no matter what this thread keeps me motivated for reading and knowing new authors etc.,

Keep going ladies (not sure if any gentlemen is in this thread )

Since you like period romances you might have read this one, otherwise take a look at Elizabeth Gaskell. Her 'North and South' is structured along similar lines. Her Mr Thornton is a grittier, more intense Darcy; instead of the bucolic estates of Derbyshire, the story is set in a sooty and dusty Manchester during the industrial revolution. I liked the book but it ends rather abruptly, though to be fair that isn't the author's fault. Mrs Gaskell was forced to wrap up the story 3 chapters earlier than she had planned, something to do with printing costs. The 2004 BBC miniseries is a gorgeous adaptation with a more satisfying ending. I preferred it to the book's ending. I almost like it more than P&P!

What do you suggest first? Book or the TV series.

Same here, I feel just the act of recording what I am reading is making sure that I finish what I pick up.

I read the book after I saw the series, so I wasn't as taken by it. Had I read it first I might have had a different opinion. Personal preference: TV series.

    Started watching it on netflix.

But your paper shortage comment piqued my interest, and was reading the author's Wikipedia entry. Her conflict with Charles Dicken's about publishing of North and South seems like that deserves its own short series but I digress.

What! Why on Earth it is a shallow reason? I love cover art! :grinning-smiley-048:There is an entire design nerd universe out there who enjoy good covers any day! In fact, there is a thread here for the same, maybe you can bump and share the covers you like so we can all appreciate together! :beer-toast1:
