vocabulary game hai , The qeustions are very nice.really iam enjoying in searching the real meanings.............. thanks to all who ever got this idea...... now come to the real meanings of the words discovey and invention Discovery means process of finding something: the process or act of finding something or somebody unexpectedly or after searching for example These dinosaur remains were one of the most important discoveries of the century. Invention means created thing: a thing that somebody has created, especially a device or process for example Thomas Edison invented the bulb........... Hope u got the difference................ all the best, bala.:wave
My responses.. 1. Inebriated means being drunk. Hopelessly inebriated. But not sure a word like "ebriated" exists. Does it? 2. No. Flammable and Inflammable means the same thing. The rule of "in" doesn't seem to be universal. 3. Irradiation is the process of applying radiation for therapeutic purposes. Sushma
I concur with Sushma's replies. Also the word "Ebriate" does not exist. The Latin root word in "Ebrius". Similarly there's Valuable & Invaluable - both having the same meaning. So is "Priceless" which means its expensive. Some words when converted from their Latin root words have prefixes or suffixes that make us wrongly believe that they are negative! Also both Jobless & Unemployed mean the same - not having a job (OR) not engaged in gainful occupation. The previously stated meaning for 'jobless' is the commonly misconstrued meaning used as a rough translation from Indian languages. Example from Tamil: "Vera velai illaiya?" is translated as "are you jobless?" Unfortunately that is one of the very many words wrongly used by Indians because of translating it literally from their mother tongue. One more very common word is : "And All" - it has no meaning when used in the following manner. Do you know what and all happened? Do you know where and all we went? In Tamil, its common to say something like this: Enna ellam nadanthathunu unakku theriyuma? Enga ellam ponumnu unakku theriyuma? The above said sentences are not more "kocchai tamil" or slang dialect used. I understand that similar words exist in other Indian languages too... So beware when you think in any language other than English & try to convey that thought in English. I'm sure its the same for every language. L.
