    Happy varalakshmi vratham to all..

Most of us celebrate it on today, i.e. 2nd fri of sravana masam.

Unfortunately I'm not able to do it due to health issues and other personal issues.

Thought to post the telugu procedure of this pooja incase it might be helpful for the telugu married ladies.

Posting personal simple puja for ladies like me who are working/not very traditional yet do want to follow and do it with all the heart and sincere prayers.

Usually its its easier if half prep is done on thurs evening.

The procedure of puja varies frm family to family even within same community also.

So here it is, hope it helps.

Items to buy for puja (better to buy on wednesday for the decoration on thursday)

    1. Flowers ( loose roses, marigold, anything) - 250g
    2. Turmeric powder
    3. Kumkum powder
    4. Turmeric kumkum packs for thamboolam
    5. Turmeric pods/kommu
    6. Agarbattis, dhoop sticks, karpooram,
    7. White thread for thoranam making for wrist
    8. Betel leaves - 12
    9. Betel nuts, dry dates ( endu karjooram)
    10. Coconuts - 2 minimum
    11. Chandanam powder
    12. Rangoli powder/ ready made rangoli stencils
    13. Items for panchamritam - ghee, honey, milk, banana, curd
    14. Blouse pieces for thamboolam and for use in puja for goddess
    15. Glass bangles ( optional, in our family we dont give but some say its good to gv bangles to married ladies in thamboolam)
    16. Bananas for thamboolam
    17. Other fruits for naivedyam and or thamboolam
    18. Mango leaves

    Mandatory-
    1. Silver chambu
    2. Ammavari face in silver or othwrwise whatever form available n even if nothing, coconut can be used as her form.
    3. Pancha patra with uddharni
    4. Plate for kumkum harathi
    5. Small bowl for turmeric rice akshinthalu

    Procedure
    On thursday

    1. Clean the puja area
2 i usually clean all the dieties photos and apply fresh kumkum bottus (can skip if no time)
    3. In centre of the puja area make space and keep a wooden or plastic peeta/plank and smear it with turmeric paste. Then apply kumkum and rice four dots on four sides.
    4. Make a padmam muggu/rangoli in centre of plank.
    5. Pour 1cup raw rice in the centre of the rangoli.
    6. Optional - keep a banana leaf on this rangoli.
( We dont keep. Instead we put a red blouse piece over this rangoli).
    7. Take silver chambu and clean it well and then smear turmic paste n apply kumkum dots all around.
    8. Keep the chambu in centre of the plank over the cloth and add in it dry date-1, 1rupee coin or silver coin, betel nut- 1, turmeric pod/pasupu kommu - 1 ( some add rice or water ...we dont).

    9. Keep mango leaves over the kalasam/chambu
    10. Take a coconut and clean n smear with turmeric paste and apply kalyanam tilakam to represent it as goddess lakshmi.
    11. Keep this coconut over the kalasam with mango leaves such that the tail of coconut is upwards and round part down sitting on kalasam
12.if you gave goddess face attach it to the coconut with thread or if it has a wire to fix to the kalasam.

    13. Decorate goddess and kalasam with tying cone shape made from blouse piece over the coconut tail part.

    14. Decorate further with any jewelry and apply kumkum bottu on ammavari face.
    15. Decorate other dieties with flowers.
    16. Take 1 betel leaf and pour some turmeric powder n mix with water to form thick solid paste n make lord ganesha out of this or jus sjus simply make it cone shape.
    17. Place this infront of the wooden plank.

    18. Take white thread and measure to till elbow length and for this length take 8 more times the same thread so as to get 9threads of equal length (without cutting).
Smear turmeric paste on the entire thread and tie 8 knots and finally in centre keep a flower and tie 9th knot.
( Total should be 9 knots).
Make such atleast 2 (one for you and one for goddess ...some will make more to give for other women in vayanam/thamboolam and for other gilsg and married ladies in the house).

Half the work will b easy if all these are done on the thurs evening. ( Flowers can be decorated on fri morning).

    Main puja day-

Now, there are many elaborate vidhanam for puja. We keep it simple. We have vratham book in telugu that we follow.
Start with lighting deepam and praying to lord ganesha (made of turmeric paste).
Then sankalpam ...tell ur gothram, family peoples names and pray for their wellbeing.

Then follow the book ptocedure for chanting shlokas 1st for ahvanam then asamanam and arghyam, padhyam and aachamanam.
( These wont take much time and are the beginning for puja by invoking and iviting goddess so it is must).

Vasthram ( cotton smeared with turmeric paste) is kept on goddess and lord ganesha.

Next is adhanga puja and then chamt ashtothram
    (With akshintalu and flowers)

Next is light agarbattis ang keep checking for oil/ghee in the lighted deepam so that it shud last till end of puja.

Now read vratham kada while holding a flower and some akshinthalu in hand.
End of the kadha put this on goddess and pray.

Then naivedhyam is offerred( odd number 3 or 5 or 7 or 9)
Usually bellam pongali, payasam, vada, rice, sundal etc. Whatever possible to cook.

This is followed by karpoora harathi, thambulam and then pradakshinam.

At last is thoranam puja. Sloka is chanted while holding coconut and a flower in right hand. It is tied to right hand.

    Thats all.

P.S. I do not strictly follow everything so i may be wrong here and there please follow as you feel like as per your customs.

This im posting to help those who have no idea or doing for 1st time.

May lakshmi devi bless us all
