    Dear Agatha,

Assuming you don't follow the American politics, I am explaining it. Like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, there is one other right that is given by the Constitution in the US which is called "Right to buy and keep arm" which is generally called, "Right to bear arms". This is known as a right obtained through the second amendment of the constitution which gives the Americans the right to buy weapons and keep it with them for self-defense. National Rifle Association ("NRA") is a big lobby in the congress with enormous power supporting rifle manufacturers in the US and fund one of the major political party to keep this right alive for a long period of time.

In the meantime, slaughtering of innocent children, church goers, office goers, theater goers, visitors to a pub were all slaughtered mercilessly either because the shooter was mentally imbalanced or hater of a race or a terrorist following the twisted ideology of ISIL. A vast majority of the Americans are now begging to bring some common sense gun laws that would prevent such people buying assault type rifles easily without any questions asked. This will be one of the major political debates in the forthcoming election deciding who would be elected as the President after killing 49 LGBTQ innocent lives and 53 others are seriously wounded.

While one of the candidates is for bringing some common sense gun laws, another is arguing that the other party is trying to take arms out of the average Americans when the terrorists would some how find arms and continue to attack the innocent civilians. He is proposing a temporary ban on Muslims entering into the US until this country figures out how to resolve it and questioning the integrity of other 3 million Muslims living in the country accusing them with harboring terrorism by not reporting about the terrorists. FBI director has given several examples of instances where they got tips from the Islamic community about suspected terrorist activities.

While majority of the Americans believe it is not a war against a particular religion, one candidate is dangerously playing into the hands of ISIL by declaring a war against the religion which is preciously what ISIL wants.

I join you in your prayers for the victims, those who are still recovering and their families.

    Dear Viswa,
These kind of mindless killing of the innocents make our hearts bleed. All peace loving countries should jointly fight against terrorism. Peace loving Islamic countries should be taken into confidence and intelligence reports gathered should be shared among mall peace loving countries.
As you have rightly said US should lmplement gun control through proper legislation to avoid fire arms reaching the hands of the hard core criminals and extremists.

    Dear Smt. Srinivasan:

Your response is like a fresh air flowing into an otherwise humid atmosphere here in the US. You said it all and that is precisely how all countries should work together to eliminate terrorism from the face of the earth. Intelligence gathering, cooperation between governments, educating the young people in the troubled spots, gun control, educating common public how to be careful in public places, limited use of force wherever necessary, etc. are the right approach.

Viswa Dr. Frankenstein now finds that the monster has turned on him. All these Islamic outfits from al qaeda to IS are American creations. Saddam in Iraq was a barrier against these elements but he was foolishly removed and a weak government put in his place allowing Islamic fundamentalists a free run. Similarl to create trouble for Gaddafi in Libya and Bashad Assad in Syria US and west armed and trained an opposition that mainly comprised Sunni extremists who later emerged as IS. The NRA is too powerful for US to amend gun laws that date back to the days of the wild west and are obsolete in the modern days. Obamas steps in this direction were half hearted and his successor is not going to be bothered about it.

    Dear Balajee,

That is why I ended my snippet with a plea to look at the foreign policies of the United States with a fresh set of mind. They don't have to police everything that is happening around the world unless it is a decision taken collectively by the UN. Americans no longer support any war anywhere in the world and no government can go to war when majority of Americans oppose war now. But having a blind eye towards a genocide happening somewhere in the world is not right either. Whatever is the reason, still ISIS killing and raping Yazidis is unacceptable and it should be brought up in the UN with concrete proposal to stop the genocide.

Even India interfered when Pakistan misruled East Pakistan arming the Mukti Bhagini when so many Bangladeshis became refugees into India. Bangladesh now has a huge terror network as well according to the reports. The Western civilization is facing the same refugee situation now with ISIS and Iraq and Syria becoming a huge terror network. There is a fine line between supporting liberation moment Vs arming the rebels who later become a terror network. It is difficult for any country to understand the emotions of the people of another nation.

Regarding gun control, NRA is indeed very powerful but second amendment right is already given several decades back and it is difficult to take back the guns that millions own now. Only way to prevent such terrorist attack inside the US is to bring some common sense amendments that would prevent assault type rifles getting into the hands of the terrorists. It looks like a sensible action if someone is in no fly list and he should be prohibited from buying a gun as well.

As long as there are people who believe that the way they can stay in power and get more money for themselves or their supporters is through war and keeping military active, wars or act of terrorism will happen. This is seen in US (Many in republican party want wars and have donors which benefit from more defense spending), in Pakistan (Military gets money and importance only by keeping conflict with India alive), North Korea, Iran, Iraq, etc.

Unfortunately, this system runs since eons and will continue in the future as well. There will never be a perfect world and the world will become more imperfect in the future as the population keeps on increasing and the resources gets scarced.

    Dear Akanksha,

I hope the same failed foreign policy doesn't continue and the future President (whoever is elected) change materialistic approach to humanitarian approach. Moreover, most Americans are sick and tired of war and those old approaches are not going to sell. Collective international decisions to stop genocides, complete cooperation on intelligence gathering between countries, sensible refugees management including careful background checks, precision military strikes on terrorist headquarters as and when necessary with a resolution in the UN, sensible gun control, etc. are the only options. Hopefully, Americans stay focused on better economy, improved infrastructure, meaningful immigration policies, sensible research and development, etc., the fundamental principles that helped this country what it is today.
