    Good going!!!

    Hi Devs thats informative.

So far i have visited Penang, kuantan, genting highlands, port dickson and melaka. Of all these places, i loved penang the most. I have gone there twice. Very first time we went when we were on our way to thailand (4 yrs back). I fell in love with that place. There is some kind of calm and serenity there.

By the way, ppl going to penang, dont miss the penang hill. It reminded me of the coaker's walk in kodai canal. Also the buddha temple near by the hill. Take a ride on the cycle rickshaw, u r bound to enjoy it!!

When u visit the twin tower (KLCC) on week days u get a chance to go up to the 42nd floor on the skybridge. Entrance is restircted. Free passes are issued inside the tower itself everyday, but you have to go early as the number of passes issued is limited. The view from high up is panaromic and don't forget the video cam!!!

If you are planning to visit the genting highlands and wanna try ur luck at the casino, dont forget to ask ur man to wear formal shoes and a tie. Children under 18 yrs r not allowed in the casino. The theme park is great!!!

    Cherating Beach

Less than 50km north of Kuantan is Cherating. Cherating is the perfect antidote to frantic city life. Here, wide gently sloping sandy beaches, lined with casuarinas trees, extend as far as the eye can see.
The enamored and fabulous sparkling seas, pristine beaches and cool breezes made Club Mediterranean open its first Asian venture here, on a private beach. The main Cherating beach is the location of many hotels, reboots and chalets, catering for all budgets.

First popularized by the backpackers, Cherating is now popular with many visitors who came to enjoy the beach, sea and sun. Handicraft shops and cultural establishments have been established, and many visitors enjoy making their own batiks. Batik painting and pandanus handicrafts remain popular souvenirs from Cherating.

Cherating also offers you the chance to shop for handicraft and see cultural performances. Village maidens nimbly weave the "pandanus" leaves into mats, hats, bags and other inexpensive lightweight souvenirs. Cultural shows include wayang kulit (shadow play) and silat (the Malay art of self-defence).

    Taman Negara

    Mother Nature's Treasure Trove

Spread out over 4,343 sq. km. of the formidable Titiwangsa Mountain Range is Taman Negara - One of the world's oldest tropical rainforest. A sanctuary to hundreds of species of birds, butterflies, insects, fish and plants. Home to Malaysia's friendly aborigines, the Orang Asli. A shy yet gentle race, they continue to live the nomadic way they've lived for centuries although fully aware of the country's fast-paced progress.
Come discover the living treasures Mother Nature has to offer. Whether it's shooting thrilling rapids, exploring spectacular caves, tackling a 20-pound fish, scaling up Peninsular Malaysia's highest mountain, trekking through dense, tricky forest pathways or swimming in crystal clear pools, Malaysia's National Park is a natural paradise you must experience. An adventure of a lifetime awaits you here.

A 130 Million Year Old Park

Taman Negara straddles the interior border regions of Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu, boasting a continuous evolutionary history that spans 130 million years. Owing to a state legislation in 1925, about 1,300 sq. km. of tropical jungle in its natural state was designated the Gunung Tahan Game Reserve. In 1939, the three sultans of the above-mentioned states declared the area a national park. It was renamed King George V National Park. Following the nation's independence from the British in 1957, the park was officially given the name it goes by now.

Over the years, although Malaysia has promoted Taman Negara as a popular tourist destination, the goverment has taken careful steps to ensure the conservation of the park's flora and fauna. All developments or upgrading programmes to cater for tourists are carried out only after consultation with environmental experts

    Endau Rompin State Park

    Endau Rompin State Park

Some of the most visually stunning tourist attractions are found in Pahang. The Endau Rompin Park is no exception.
The rainforests of the Endau Rompin has been in existence for over one million years. In fact, it is one of the world's oldest tropical rainforests. Believed to be older than the Amazon jungle and the Congo, Endau Rompin has remained virtually unchanged through the millennia.
Endau Rompin boasts some of the most exotic species ever found. Here, its flora and fauna have evolved into a unique eco-system of exotic species found nowhere else on earth.
Endau Rompin is one of the major remaining lowland forests in Malaysia, covering 80,000 hectares of virgin jungle which straddles the states of Pahang and Johor.
This nature reserve offers a whole spectrum of activities for the adventurous, including camping, jungle trekking, bird-watching, boating and fishing.
Endau Rompin also provides the opportunity to get back to nature and experience the mysterious secrets of its wilderness.

The Catch of The Season for Ardent Anglers
Some of the best fishing spots in Malaysia can be found within the Endau Rompin grounds. The most popular sites are along the lower reaches of Sungai Kinchin and Sungai Kemapan. The best time for fishing is from the months of February to April and from June to August. Fishes caught here are noticeably larger than those caught in rivers elsewhere in Peninsular Malaysia.

    Jungle Trekking Amidst Lush Greenery
One of the best ways to discover the breathtaking beauty of Endau Rompin is by foot. You can take a leisurely trek through the jungle, shaded by trees which go back hundreds of years. Imagine the sight of toadstools and multicoloured fungsi that greet you along the way. And rainbow hued butterflies fluttering past as you gaze up into the dense canopy above.

For those who enjoy physically demanding activities, hike along the treacherous terrains of the park. Along the way, your Orang Asli guide can entertain you with exciting mysteries and mythologies of Endau Rompin. Pitch a tent and relax in silence which will only be interrupted by the chirping of birds and the rustling leaves.

Don't forget to visit Padang Tujuh, a site for bonsai trees. Another not to be missed spot is Mahkota Waterfalls which is a cascading 50-meter fall. Interestingly, the Kelapa Gading Cave, which is 25 metres high, is situated in the midst of the waterfall.

    River Safaris Unlike Anywhere Else
The park's name is really a combination of Endau and Rompin rivers. These magnificent rivers of Endau Rompin is a spectacular landmark of the park and offers some of the most spectacular views in Malaysia.

Enjoy the sight of foaming clear water rushing over enormous rocks and boulders as it gently meanders into sparkling pools. Some of the most breathtaking waterfalls are also found here along the three main rivers of Endau Rompin, in addition to the many smaller cascades that dot the landscape.

    The Fascinating Orang Asli
One of the greatest thrills of discovering Endau Rompin is of course meeting the Orang Asli or aborigines. This indigenous group of Malaysians are both shy and retiring, yet extremely courteous once you've gained their trust.

They commonly live in makeshift huts in forested areas along the rivers as this provide them with basic needs such as water, food and transportation. Having lived in the jungles all their lives, the Orang Asli has a thorough knowledge or the jungle and its treasures. In fact, they can identify all the plants and use them for curing ailments from broken bones to mental illness! A number of these plants and herbs have been scientifically proven for their medicinal properties.

Humble and hospitable, the Orang Asli continue to maintain their simple, traditional lifestyle. They also act as tourist guides to supplement their incomes

    Kenong Rimba Park

How to get there I Planning an Itinerary I Park Regulations

Covering an area of about 121 sq. kilometres in the Kenong valley, southwest of Taman Negara is the Kenong Rimba Park. This scenic valley, traversed by rippling mountain streams, is home to the Batek aboriginal tribe. Within the park are magnificent limestone caves beneath which flows the Kenong River as it meanders gently on its way. The sense of tranquility and quiet solitude is broken only by the merry chirping of the birds and the cascading waterfalls. The almost magical quality of the surroundings inspires numerous intriguing folklore such as that of the mango tree which bears such deliciously luscious fruits. You may eat as much as your heart desires but you may not take home even a single fruit lest you be blighted with a curse. Folklore aside, there is much more to fascinate you here.

    Fascinating Flora And Fauna
Floral Fiesta Within the shade of the cool green forests the keen nature lover is bound to spot some beautiful varieties of wild orchids clinging on to the bigger trees from which they derive their sustenance. Here you will find an interesting variety of plant life that include Tualang (Koompasia excelsa), the tallest tree in the tropical rain forest. Also in abundance is the gigantic ficus tree "Pokok Ara", popularly featured in many local folklore, proverbs and rhymes. A profusion of pink and white water lilies floating on the still green waters adds to the enchantment.

    Fine Feathered Friends And Mammals
The area is home to birds such as the dove (Chalcophaps indica) "merpati", merbah red eye (Pycnonothus Prunneus)" merbah mata merah" and Copsycus malabaricus "murai batu" prized by bird lovers for their singing ability. Mammals such as the prickly porcupine whose spiky bristles spread out menacingly at the first sight of danger, the deer (Tragulus javanicas) "pelanduk", Malayan tapir (Tapirus indicus) or "tenuk" and elephants (Elephas maximus) "gajah" may be found within the park..

    Balok Beach

Balok beach is about 15km north of Kuantan and is a paradise for avid wind-surfers. Most of the activities revolve around the many international class resorts and hotels located at the beach, forming the perfect getaway for visitors to the East Coast of the Peninsular. Truly perfect and serene with soothing tropical breezes, swaying casuarinas, unending white sand in harmony with the azure blue sea, indeed, relaxation is never easier.

Balok Beach is a comfortable and relaxing sandy beach. It is suitable to relax on the golden sands, play volleyball and various other ground activities. It's waters are suitable for snorkelling, scuba diving, swimming, skiing, sunbathing, surfing or sailing.

    Teluk Chempedak Beach

Located just 5km from Kuantan town, Teluk Chempedak is a favourite among local folks. Its enclosed bay is suitable for water sport activities like swimming, surfing and jet-skiing. Its casuarina-lined beach is, however, quite rocky at certain places and the waves are often rough.

On the sea front, numerous restaurants and food stalls serving a wide variety of food and beverages attract throngs of locals and tourists alike. They do a brisk trade and open right till after midnight.

The nearby jungle area provides a quick introduction to Malaysia's flora and fauna, with a few different species of plant life, insects and other small animals inhabiting the limited space. Beware of the macaques, as they can be quite a nuisance.

Just around the corner overlooking the beach is an international-class hotel. With the sounds of big waves splashing against the gigantic rocks in the background, this is a place to be at any time of the day.

    Place Around Teluk Chempedak
    Teluk Tongkang :
From the northern end of Teluk Chempedak, take the walkway which leads for about a kilometer over the rocky terrain to reach Teluk Tongkang. This is the only access to this secluded cape which is hemmed in by rocky outcrops on both sides. Its seclusion proved to be the perfect landing site for Japanese troops during the Second World War. The locals named the cape tongkang after the type of landing craft the Japanese used..

    Jeram Besu

Apart from Fraser's Hill, other recreational areas in Pahang include the Lata Jarum Watefalls and the Jeram Besu Rapid. The former is just 30 kilometres from Raub while the latter is only about 3 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. Jeram Besu is fast gaining popularity as one of the most challenging white water-rafting areas in the country. Raub is one of the oldest towns in the State of Pahang. It began as a gold mining town in the early 19th century. Remains of its colonial past are evident in the old buildings scattered around the town..

    Gunung Senyum Caves</B>

The Gunung Senyum Caves consists of at least 20 Caves, which are fascinating to explore. Which cave exploration and camping in the shade of tropical foliage are common activities, scientific research is also gaining in popularity among students and scientists. Cave explorers must be prepared for the smell of bats, limestone rocks and the sightmg of strange creatures and insects

    Sarawak

Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia. It covers an area of 124,000 square kilometres and has a coastline of some 800km facing the South China Sea. Lying on the northwest coast of Borneo, the third largest island in the world, Sarawak shares its boundaries with Kalimantan (Indonesia Bomeo) in the south, Brunei and Sabah in the north.

Sarawak is also known as 'The land of many rivers'. The rivers provide natural means of transportation and communication. The 590km long Sungai Rejang is the longest river in the country. The rivers together with the wide spread trunk roads and well connected domestic air links make traveling to interior destinations easily accessible.

Once ruled by the three White Rajahs for about 100 years from 1841-1941, there are many a romantic past told about the wars and glimpses of the bygone era of the Brookes. The battles between the pirates and the Brooke forces, the rebellions by Dayaks, Malays and Chinese gold miners had filled Sarawak past with mystery and excitement. The famous Sarawak Museum with its huge collection of native heritage and artefacts, also houses the best collection of its rich history. Today, despite her rapid urbanisation, many historical remains of the Brookes can still be found at Kuching and other parts of Sarawak...

Longhouses - Visit at Home with The People of Sarawak

One of the most memorable experiences Sarawak has to offer is a visit to a longhouse, where you can observe a unique way of life and enjoy legendary Dayak hospitality. These thriving communities, whole villages under one roof, are not relics from the days of tribal warfare - they are the preferred way of life for a large percentage of Sarawak's rural people, particularly the Iban, the Bidayuh and the Orang Ulu.

    Kuching Waterfront

More than any other feature, the Waterfront epitomizes how Kuching has modernized itself without losing any of its charm.

Kuching is a riverine city. Its location on the Sarawak River was chosen not only for its strategic and commercial importance, but also for its enchanting natural beauty. In days gone by the river was the city's main highway. The river still retains its importance and picturesque charm in the modern era. Present day life is still concentrated on the waterfront.

A meander on the Kuching waterfront is a walk through time; from Kuching's humble, ancient origins, to its status as a modern city. No visit to Kuching would be complete without a stroll on the modern esplanade, or to sit, relax and experience a Sarawakian sunset.

There have of course been many changes since James Brooke's time, but there are still many landmarks that are legacies from the White Raj. For the first time visitor, it would be easy to imagine the scene in 1839 when James Brooke first landed in Kuching, and started a new chapter in the annals of Sarawak's history.

The Waterfront has of course undergone several transformations since the 19th century - from a small settlement with a few atop buildings, to a busy port with warehouses and wharves, to the landscaped riverside walk it is today. The Waterfront is now also home to modern sculpture, an open-air theatre and a musical fountain.

Several buildings, originally built in the 19th and early 20th centuries to cater to Kuching's earlier development as a port and administrative center, have been restored to their former glory and are worth visiting, starting with the Sarawak Steamship Building.

Visitors are then entertained with traditional music, dances and games. After the locals have had their turn, the guests are expected to join in the fun. Anyone who refuses will soon find themselves dragged to their feet by the young ladies of the longhouse and forced to take part in the dancing.

After the entertainment is finished there are a number of options, depending on how adventurous you are. Some tour operators arrange for visitors to eat a traditional longhouse dinner with their host family and sleep on mattresses in the ruai, according to Iban tradition. Others may put their guests up in a simple guesthouse nearby, with more familiar cuisine prepared by the tour guide, who is always an accomplished cook. For lovers of luxury, a few 'longhouse resorts' are now operating, managed by professional hoteliers and serving international cuisine in resort style comfort

    Sibu and The Rejang

The trip along Rejang River is arguably one of Southest Asia's most rewarding travel experiences. A lifeline to the people of the vast hinterland, the river is alive with boats, people and cargo. From the thriving port of Sibu to deep into Sarawak's vast interior, the Rejang offers visitors the chance to experience life on Malaysia's mightiest river. The best way to get to know the Rejang is to embark on one of the World's last great river journey..

    Bako National Park

Bako National Park, 37 kilometres from Kuching, can be reached by 30-minute drive to Kampung Bako and then followed by a 25-minute boat ride. The constant erosion over millions of years, had turned Bako into a picturesque coastline of steep cliffs, rocky head-lands and many stretches of sandy bays. The erosion caused by constant waves at the base of cliffs had carved and created many of the rocks into sea arches and sea stacks. Beautiful sandstone formation featuring pink and iron patterns on cliff faces can be seen along most of the coastline. Many, who have visited the Park commented that Bako National Park is a treasure chest of fauna and flora. Naturalists will be thrilled to find a wide range of vegetations including the varieties of pitcher plants and wild orchids. The varieties of vegetation found in Borneo can also be seen in the Park's mangrove forest, mixed dipterocarp forest, peat swamp forest and kerangas forest.

Trekking through any of its 16 well maintained jungle trails is an interesting experience. Within the Park, it is not uncommon to see troops of long-tailed Macaques and silver-leaf monkeys along with giant monitor lizards, plantain squirrels, wild boars and mouse deers. The most significant animal in the Park is the bizzare long nosed proboscis monkeys found only in Borneo island.

    Fraser Hill-Pahang

    Fraser's Hill

Delight In The Cool Comfort Of A Hilltop Retreat
Fraser's Hill derives its name from one of the more colourful characters in Colonial history, James Louis Fraser, an adventurer and fortune hunter. Stories about his life, included rumours that he managed an opium and gambling den that was frequented by miners. However, in the early 1900's, J.L. Fraser vanished, never to be heard from again. Later, in 1917, a couple of clergymen rediscovered Fraser's Hill on one of their wanderings. Realising its potential as a Colonial hill station, they managed to garner enough support from the authorities to built a road linking the Kuala Lumpur - Bentong / Kuantan Highway to Fraser's Hill.

When the popularity of Fraser's Hill grew, the expatriate community at that time took to building holiday bungalows on the higher slopes to get away from the unbearable heat of the lowlands. Fraser's Hill at one time was the playground of rich miners and planters from the surrounding areas. One of Malaysia's earliest Golf courses was constructed on Fraser's Hill in 1925 by engineer Frank Hemmant.Cool throughout the year at average temperatures of 58'F to 65'F, the attraction of Fraser's Hill as a tourist resort has not diminished through the years.

Today, Fraser's Hill is popular as a site for company retreats and weekends. The golf fanatic will find enough here to occupy his days and non golfers may just decide to while aways their time horseback riding or simply strolling down the picturesque lanes that weave through the green countryside. The fresh mountain air is cool and invigorating and when dusk falls, the mist that blows in brings back memories of a simple, gentle era.

    The Gap
The drive up to Fraser's Hill is slow and winding, but the scenic beauty of the surroundings will undoubtedly take your mind off the meandering ascent. Before reaching the summit of Fraser's Hill, you will have to pass through the gap, a section of the road that is only accessible in one direction at a time. As such, the road is open for an hour to traffic heading uphill and vice-versa through the day. It is customary for travellers on route to Fraser's Hill to stop over at the Gap Resthouse for tea while waiting for the road to be opened. The resthouse also provides accommodation for those who arrive too late at night to make the final ascent to the top Fraser's Hill.

    Golfing
One of the coolest and most beautiful courses in Malaysia, De Club Golf at Frazer's promises a challenging 18 holes for the avid golfer. De Club Golf was designed by world-renowned golfer and international consultant Rodger Davis, and features a clolonial style clubhouse with tennis courts, food and beverage outlets and other amenities associated with a world class course. Plans have also been drawn up for a hotel and corporate bungalow to be built around the course.

    Horseback Ridding
The Paddock at Fraser's Hill provides ponies for novices who would like to experience the pleasures of horseback riding and horses for more proficient riders. Horseback riding is an ideal way to explore Fraser's Hill and there are a number of trails that spiral around the hillside. There is nothing quite like feeling the rocking canter of a horse beneath you as the cool morning air whispers past your face. It is truly and experience you will never forget.

    Bird Watching
Fraser's Hill is also a haven for bird-watching with over 270 species of local and migratory birds flocking together here. Each year, the Malaysian Nature Socienty, in conjunction with the Fraser's Hill Development Corporation organises the international Bird Race. This event has achieved tremendous success, with participants from all over the world converging at Fraser's Hill to see which team can sight, identify and record the most number of birds as stated in the official checklist. This world-renowned event seek to promote Fraser's Hill as a bird sanctuary and encourages bird watching as a healthy outdoor activity which can be appreciated by all. Fraser's Hill is fast becoming a centre for bird watching enthusiasts.
