My 3 1/2 yrs olds teacher said they see some hearing problems in the kid. Some times they have to shout and go in front of her when they call her. I was shocked. My H has been telling me same things from past few days and I ignored him that she is just being child. Now it came from teacher and I recollected the incidents... that yes, she does not listen. How she wanted volumes high for TV and many things.
My H keeps telling different things about my kid, like she is blind she is dumbo ..this that.. in fun so I did not care.
We suspected wax buildup. She was fine few weeks ago and teachers also said, it recently started.
So I immediately went to doc inspite of my H stopping me that we will put warm oil, ear drops to clean wax (recipes from internet). Doc cleaned tons of wax and we talked about not to clean ears at home with Qtips or oil ever. Its natural and comes out by its own. Once a year, visit us for cleaning. Okay..so after cleaning, ear drums look fine. Went to audio test, she did not cooperate and inconclusive. She did not respond to sounds actually. But ear drums looked fine. So they recommended audiologists but they said she should be most likely normal after cleaning.

So one day passed after cleanup and I see same problems. This morning, I went to toilet and informed her I am going to bathroom and will be in this bathroom ( so she does not get scared alone). I went and she started looking and screaming for me. I had kept door open for same reason ( Come on.. I am mom, my kid is my priority). I was shouting that I am here in this bathroom but she does not listen or respond that she hears me and going everywhere to find me. Now, I remember similar things happened many times :-((((((

We decided to keep volumes low and not shout at home because,I know, here in US, in schools they speak too polite but at home, I am always shouting because no one hears me, or are at different levels (basement or upper level).

She does not go swimming. Her winters went by fine, very few ear infections or cold/cough as compared to last yr.
Please suggest if you had seen similar cases, if it goes away.
We are going to wait before going to audiologist.

Go to the audiologist Sanju. I've had to take my son a few times too. They do a very thorough job and can tell you immediately if something is amiss. If she does have a hearing issue, it's best to get it fixed sooner rather than later. If she doesn't then the audiologist visit will give you peace of mind. The pediatrician's hearing test is just a basic test and that's why the referral to the audiologist for a better test.
Edited to add: My son's hearing tests always came back normal. Even so, every now and again a therapist will ask me to get him retested. Yesterday, I was at an audiologist's office again. They are very good at what they do.

go to a audiologist sanju. it is hard to accept when it comes to our kid, but being in denial does not help us dear. better get her evaluated and maybe it is nothing and you are at peace.

long ago after frequent infections my son was not listening to us as in responding we were not sure if he was doing that intentionally. a ent evaluation proved his adenoids were filling his ears too and we got him operated and had tubes inserted, that my paed in india did not agree with the treatment is a different story.
at that moment it was about my son and the ent specialist’s warning so went ahead with the op. the tubes fell off once the canal bounced to normal and his hearing is perfect..

Thank you so much girls. I tell you IL is a blessing to us indian women living in US, who do not have many people to talk to or suggest, how things work these days.
I have been so stressed out whole day yesterday and today morning was on phone calls with my mom crying over it. I will take her to audiologist.

@sanjuruby3 , Please take your child to the audiologist. The test that is done at Pediatrician's office is very basic. My son fails the hearing test every year during the wellness visit at pediatrician's. He is a wax producer as his doctor would say :). Even after cleaning , he fails every time . Last 2 years , we took him to audiologist and we found out that his audio frequency is that of an adult and he would never pass @ pediatrician's with whatever equipment they have.

So please don't stress yourself out ..
