Friends, I have started this thread, in order to help others by reminding the special days, be it of any Viradhams or Festivals. Many people would benefit from this. This thread will be updated, as and when required.
Today, 04-04-2017 is Ashokashtami. Ashokashtami 2017 falls on April 4, Tuesday. ‘Shok’ means sorrow and “Ashok” means sorrow less. Rama prayed to Shiva and Shakti for seven days as per the advice of Vibhishana and on the eighth day,won over Ravana with their grace. This day is referred as Ashokashtami.
Hi subrabidha if you can give the reminders a day before the festival it would be even more beneficial. Imho.
Sri Rama Navami falls on April 5, Wednesday tomorrow. Rama – the Symbol of Nobility In the character of Rama, we find all virtues decoded in a single person. Rama’s life is an example of how a person should be in life. He is the role model for a great son, excellent husband, loving brother and blameless king. From his life, we understand how one can prove heights of excellence by being humble and supremely virtuous. From his life, we understand how to fight out the unforeseen situations in life.
happy Srirama Navami. Why Rama mantra is called as the Thaaraka mantra In Narayana Moola Mantra, “Om Namo Narayana”. The life of the mantra lies in the letter "ra. If the letter "ra" is removed the moola mantra becomes inauspicious. Om Namo Narayana becomes Om Namo Nayana In the Shiva moola mantra, “Om Nama Shivaya”, the life of this mantra lies in the letter "ma". If the letter "ma" is removed the moola mantra becomes inauspicious. Om Nama Shivaya becomes Om Na Shivaya The life packed these 2 letters of the moola mantras combine to form the Thaaraka Mantra – “RAMA” (Ra+Ma)" That’s why Rama Nama is called Thaaraka mantra. Saint Tyagaraja explains this in his Kriti - Evarani Nirnayinchiri Siva mantramunaku 3ma jIvamu mAdhava mantramunaku rA jIvamu(y)I vivaramu telisina ghanulaku mrokkeda vitaraNa guNa 4tyAgarAja vinuta The meaning of the above is as follows “For the Siva mantra (OM namaSSivAya), ‘ma’ is the soul; for the vishNu mantra (OM namO nArAyanAya), ‘rA’ is the soul; I salute the great personages who understand this detail” Source: AMA Vedic Services
Hi Subrabidha, Nice initiative. Kindly update the festivals/special days 2-3 days in advance so that we can make the necessary preparations. It would also be nice if you can tell us what to do on that specific day, like what pooja to do, what naivedyam to offer and so on. Thanks in advance.
