Hi Vibha thanks for the feedback. I tried shallots, but i not comfortable with it..even i dont like the sweet or white onions. I love one and only red onions as they are more similar to the onions we get in India.
Oh this is news to me. Usually I dont buy the packages for the same reason you have mentioned friendssmiley

I did observe that in our local food store the packaged white onions are medium sized whereas the loose white onions are very big in size...I like red onions also:)...everything is mega size in vegetable section..check if the locally grown ones are smaller size..have not seen locally grown onions herethinkingsmiley

Cinderella I use very little onion and have used "Onion savers" to store cut oninons - I have found them quite useful and the smell does not spread into the refrigerator

    Hello ladies
Cut onions can be safely stored in the refrigerator for a couple of days; at 40 degrees F.

The only possible explanation of getting sick using a cut onion could be unhygienic handling. The problem is not onion.

The news that onions become toxic after being cut is a hoax. There is no scientific proof either. Onions, like any other vegetable can deteriorate over time and only then cannot be consumed.

Please go ahead and use the storage boxes you invested in.

I read that cut onion kept fortnight turns extremely poisonous so should not be used.I think that is why many people don't use cut onion kept for long.
