    Hi I am starting this thread which will give us some insight into importance of every day in our history. It would be really informative if you could too add your knowledge of such events that have occured in past.

    1985
    Four heavily armed Palestinian terrorists hijacked the Achille Lauro, an Italian cruise ship carrying about 440 passengers off Egypt only to surrender two days later.
    1867
    Marie Curie, the pioneering physicist, was born in Poland. She later migrated to France and won two Nobel Prizes for her work on radioactivity
    1872
    The Marie Celeste sailed from New York only to be found mysteriously abandoned some days later. There was no sign of the crew but all the ship's provisions were found undisturbed.
    1888
    The second Indian Nobel laureate, C V Raman was born. In 1930, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics for the Raman Effect.
    1895
    Canada's first trans-continental railway was completed. The Canadian Pacific Railroad laid 4,600 kilometres of track that that made it possible for migrants to settle in the vast areas in the west of the continent.
