This month "Margazhi" in South is the same as "Marghshirsh" in North India. This is considered a period which is very good for prayers as the Sun will be shortly starting the "Uthrayana Punya Kaalam".

So in South, special Satsanghs ( called Bhajans) are held every early morning, young children particularly girls are initiated in to our cultural and religious ways through songs in praise of Gods and Goddess.
Andals Pasuram is one of the best. Beautiful Rangolis and flowers decorated the front yard of almost every house in the villages.

அழகிய அணிகலன்களை அணிந்தகன்னியரே!
சிறப்புமிக்க ஆயர்பாடியில் வசிக்கும்செல்வவளமிக்க சிறுமிகளே! மார்கழியில்முழுநிலா ஒளிவீசும்நல்லநாள்இது. இன்று நாம்நீராடக்க கிளம்புவோம். கூர்மையான வேலுடன் நம்மை ப்பாதுகாத்துவரும்ரி அரியதொழிலைச்செய்யும் நந்த கோபன்,

அழகியகண்களையுடையயசோதாபிராட்டிஆகியோரின்சிங்கம்போன்றமகனும், கரியநிறத்தவனும், சிவந்தகண்களைஉடையவனும், சூரியனைப்போல்பிரகாசமானமுகத்தையுடையவனும், நாராயணனின்அம்சமுமானகண்ணபிரான்நமக்குஅருள்தரகாத்திருக்கிறான். அவனைநாம்பாடிப்புகழ்ந்தால்இந்தஉலகமேநம்மைவாழ்த்தும்.
