There is mold everywhere! any home remedies?

hi all,
i have issues with musty smell on clothes kept in cupboards, shoes and other items covered with fugus in closed cupboards etc. We live in a very humid place. and the only solution i found while googling is to buy dehumidifyers. Well here we hardly close up windows. so i wonder what our ancestors did to prevent formation or fungus or mold in closed cupboards. Even our old pics in albums are getting ruined! any advice?
