    The Divide

    I love, I love and I love.
    My heart is too full of love.

    I love my family,
    I love my religion,
    I love my caste,
    I love my colour,
    I love my country and
    I love everything mine.

    With a heart swollen with pride, I sit
    To protect all things I love,
    I push away everything inferior.
    I draw lines, build walls and dig trenches;
    I divide everything
    Separating mine from yours.

    I sigh in relief;
    I’m now safe and protected.
    I look over my shoulder;
    The nearest man is miles away.
    I review my work;
    I smile with pride …

    A while later, I shudder at the loneliness;
    I was successful in dividing everything
    That was once ours, as the fault lines
    Threaten to engulf the humanity
    All I hear is the deafening noise of silence.
    And the divide is now too deep to undo.

    I hate, I hate and I hate.
    My heart is too full of hatred.

    Thank you @HazelPup for your comment.

    All the divide in the society began purely out of self love and selfish love. In this process our society (the world) is divided and with the division came isolation and hatred. Now we turn around and criticize the same things that led to the divide in the first place. At no point of time we are ready to blame ourselves or our attitudes. If each one of us pause and think, we will realise how divisive and selfish we are deep within. By blaming external factors we assume a holier than thou attitude. We can never be united as a society with such deep divisive nature and selfishness.

    In the same way, when we love someone, we develop possessiveness and expectations. And when the love doesn't materialise we have witnessed the birth of violent hate crimes too!

    :hello:Super duper anthology. In it you brought to light the dilemma of loveanddivide among humans in society.
    2.Dividing erstwhile Bharat to India and Pakistan and latter divided into presentpakisthan andBangladesh All happened because of loveturnedtohatred. Nation divided along linguistic lines lead to more chaos and confusion and sons of soil dominance. These are at Macro level.
    3. At Micro level loving families divided on account of property disputes, religious bias,satiliite communities etc.
    4. Love unites when it is blind in the genesis but in the long run has potential to turn into hate and divide discriminate and dither.
    5. What the English bard dramatized into the characters of Desdimona Othello your poem bespeaks same in a nutshell.
    Regards.
    God Bless Us All Always.

    :hello: As a rejoinder to my previous comments @#4,
    It is said love thy neighbour. But we know eventually it turns up soar.
    2. Wars were fought because politicians loved their country men and women.
    3. Love was the root cause thus found Mahaveer Buddha. He went far away to avoid all stimuli and reported of his enlightenment. Result or lesson - if one turns into monk thus avoid love and hate remain empty for liberation.
    4. Stewed in profound love and stirred by ambition to see her lover husband wears the crown of Scotland, general Macbeth spouse became an accomplice in execution of king of Scotland DUNCAN and the sequel was hatred and death. Macbeth turned paranoid.
    The more protective of your loved ones more sorrow results.
    God Bless Us All.

    You have analysed well , @Thyagarajan sir. To rid ourselves of greed and hatred born out of extreme form of love, one has to remain unattached and practice love and hatred in moderation.
