Recently my son asked me "if you were allowed to read only one book ever, what would be that one and only book" left me thinking...

A very tough question and got to know it was a quoran question and he has been asking all his friends too.

Thought it's a interesting one and would be nice to know about your choices and any specific reason for the same..

Pay it forward by Catherine Ryan is one book that has changed the way I look at helping the needy. The first time I heard the concept I was 21 and now 25+yrs later I have evolved a lot and still a work in progress at being a better human being.

    So what is yours?

    All about H.Hatterr
    By Govindas Vishnoodas Desani

The mad English of All About H. Hatterr is a thoroughly self-conscious and finely controlled performance, as Anthony Burgess points out in its preface:
“ But it is the language that makes the book, a sort of creative chaos that grumbles at the restraining banks. It is what may be termed Whole Language, in which philosophical terms, the colloquialisms of Calcutta and London, Shakespeareian archaisms, bazaar whinings, quack spiels, references to the Hindu pantheon, the jargon of Indian litigation, and shrill babu irritability seethe together. It is not pure English; it is, like the English of Shakespeare, Joyce and Kipling, gloriously impure.

I am sure you can buy a pdf download in some site.

I have bought real books -- both HC and PB types. This is my favorite gift to book reading teens.

The Lord of the Rings series. There was this guy in college who wouldn't stop talking about them. He had a much loved dog-eared copy of the book that he had treasured since he was 14. He lent it to me and I took it home during a break. Never since have I fallen in love with a book like that. Once I started I couldn't put it down until I was done. I never returned that fellow's book, and he hasn't stopped reminding me even after the decade+ we've been married!
