The train stopped at Renigunta Junction .
Opposite to my seat there was a couple with their three year old son .
The vendors were moving on the platform , shouting of their goods - newspaper , water packets , snacks , coffee & tea ,etc.,
One snacks vendor was shouting ," vada, vada,. Vediga vada , vediga vada ".
    He was selling hot vadas.
"Vediga " in Telugu means HOT .
Vediga vada means ' hot vada '.
The little boy sitting opposite to me showed his hand pointing to the vada vendor.
His father was very much pleased that his son was asking for some food;. because children of his age would be adamant in not taking any food .
His mother also gave a sigh of relief.
His father got three vadas from the vendor and gave one to his son.
The boy took the vada in his hands and scrutinized it .
Then he returned the vada to his father saying that ,"I don't want this vada ."
His father gave another vada and that too was rejected by the boy.
His father gave the third vada , that also was rejected by the boy .
His father very calmly asked him why he rejected all the three vadas and what he wanted .
    The boy replied that எனக்கு இந்த வடை எல்லாம் வேண்டாம் . எனக்கு " வேடிக்கை வடைதான் " வேண்டும் என்றான் .
meaning I want only vedikkai vada (in Tamil "vedikkai" means fun .
The boy has understood Telugu 'vediga' as Tamil 'vedikkai'.
His parents tried very much to convince him, with all difficulties ,but in vain .
The boy started crying at a high pitch ,
" I want VEDIKKAI VADAI immediately".
    (that too IMMEDIATELY ).
His father finally got him a big size chocolate for Rs.40/- and pacified him.

    Extension:
My children will take idly only for one day,
that too with a bit of compulsion.
The next day they will take dosa , half heartedly.
After witnessing the ' VEDIKKAI VADAI'
    என் கற்பனைக்குதிரை சிறகடித்துப் பறந்தது .( my imagination reached a greater height .)
I made dosas of different shapes : elephant , cat , giraffe etc., which were of great demand among the children.

    Further extension.
My Mrs. had a grievance that the children didn't take vegetables sufficiently .
I cut vegetables , like carrots, cabbage, onion and capsicum, of course using machines as well , into very nice pieces , sprayed the mixture of vegetables on dosas , while making them .
    Ha ! what a great demand ! ! !
My Mrs. appreciated me again and again for my novel idea and mainly my patience.
My children also said that only I should prepare dosas , thereafter .
So I got two certificates which I regard more than anything .

    Sir,
    That is a lovely snippet.
I too had done it for my kids whilst young. Kind of easy way to make them eat.
    Thanks for writing up,
    Vaidehi

My grandson wanted square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon, pentagon and octagon doasis, he didn't want a round dosa to be cut into shapes. He would gladly sit on my hipss and supervise whether the dosa has the shape he wanted when it is taken out from the dosa pan.I struggled hard to draw shapes of elephant, cow etc on a banana bit, pour the diluted batter on it, carefully transfer it to Tava wihout getting the shape distorted.

I have prepared hundreds of doass to guests, but this was a real challenge.
