    Hi anjusrgm

You can try dhokla .It is made with rice and dal. its a gujrati dish. soak rice and dal in water for 6 hours. Grind them coarsly with sour curd ginger and green chillies. Let it ferment. Use a oiled plate and put the batter in it. Make sure to fill it upto half only. Put in steamer for 10-20 min. It will rise. Once done cut it into pieces .Heat 1 tsp oil and put hing, mustard seeds and curry leaves, then put it on the dhokla pieces and have with green chutney. You can make it using idly stand also. To use less oil, you can skip the last step ie. tadka. You can google it or can check it recipe section of IL.

I will check with my mom and get back to you with correct proportions.

    Re: steamed food recipes

Use oil that is low in cholestrol. Gingely oil is best. Groundnut oil comes next as it has no bad cholestrol (not fried one).

Oothappams with minimal oil or done in non-stick pan
Kuzhi paniyaram prepared in non-stick pan or the ordinary one greased lightly.
Kozhukattai with vegetable stuffing (also known as momos / dumplings = use rice atta instead of maida as maida is not good for health)
rice batter can be spread on a plate and steamed - taken like adai to add taste to it, you can add asafoetida (hing), temper with mustard in a very very little oil (1/4 tsp)
Steamed Big Bananas (also known as nendra pazham)
Salads of vegetables, fruits or mix of it
Upma (with less & fresh oil)
You can relish all the tiffin items if you use fresh oil and less oil :)

Any bananas left in the fruit bowl? Just right for a cool and refreshing shake, as banana is an excellent source of potassium! Blend orange, papaya and banana together to make a filling drink; it is known to fight cholesterol!
