    Hi ladies,

Anybody having stainless steel countertops in their kitchen ?

We are looking to upgrade ours & apparently the ever popular granite is NOT supposed to be anywhere near food ... as it is mined from quarries .....:spin
That is said to be the reason why in all professional kitchens it is only stainless steel as it is very very safe, doesn't harbour bacteria, is not porous so won't absorb kitchen stains [oil, turmeric etc.] & of course, very durable.

But does anybody have it in their kitchen -- 'cos not sure how it would look ? Does the surface dull over time ? Will it be noisy when we place pans over them ? Will it dent ? Won't our fingerprints, scratch marks on it be very obvious on it, then we would've to keep polishing or buffing it often ?

Any info. on this , please post your suggestions.

    Thanks.

Thanks for response Mythili. Will go thro' the link at leisure.

Even I was never aware of such countertops for kitchen, hence the query. Anyway, I did some shopping around and have come to know that stainless steel is actually more expensive than granite !!!!! :spin I couldn't believe it at first ...
Since the steel sheets have to be cut, moulded, welded to the particular measurement of our kitchen space, it works out more expensive. For commercial kitchens, apparently the sizes are standard / modular style, so in bulk it works out much cheaper.

Right now, I'm leaning toward Quartz [ Silestone brand] countertops..:idea as they are more durable , don't need polishing like granite & also they are non-porous whereas granite absorbs oil spills, limejuice, turmeric etc.

Still some time before I decide..
