I feel sorry for these old grandmas. I mean with all those roller coasters in their lives, one would be suicidal by the age of 40 and these seem to be taking all the blows right until they are about 140!

in one serial round laddoos made by heroine impressed her husband's boss and thats how his job was saved.

Probably they were very hard and the boss was worried that one might just hit his head like a missile?

even after plotting, sending jail and killing attempt, people continue to live together and celebrate festivals together. one can learn to forgiving and forgetting spirit here.......

..... until the next bout of vengfulness strikes.

I have completely stopped watching these soaps....recently i saw one adv...where one woman is saying ...my daughters will tell the world that a woman can become a CEO and at the same time she can be perfect in household chores and management. these serials are setting unreasonable expectations on woman in every sense.

Yes, that is the one I was mentioning .... Swabhimaan.

sadly they show such crap about woman while woman are the audience of such soaps..........

The last ones I watched are Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin and Koshish Ek Aasha. My favorite part is when the camera pans to each face, one at a time, to show their shock at something. How do they shoot such a scene? Each person waits for his or her turn to drop his or her jaw. So for retakes, they pull their jaw back up and drop it again.

Rihana, those are really old!!! Yes, not only do their jaws drop, but their faces turn black and white! It's really hilarious!

Hey Kamala, so good to see you here. Yes, don't have too many ideas ticking in my brain these days. Then when they do pop up, they do so when I am on my way to work and by the time I come back and switch on the lappie ... poooof!!! The idea has flown away never to show up again except at the most inopportune moment!

One of those guilty SGBV!!!

I used to see India via these tele serials. Although I know the content of the serials are just the directors mind-set and not necessarily accepted by the people, but at least I hoped the characters, the dressing style, the dialogues etc..etc... should resemble the actual India.

Dream on! Either they are brazen hussies or they are docile women. Now there is a new brand of vamps (married - so they have to wear sarees) who successfully destroy the very raison d'etre of the saree. They reveal more than is covered with those 6 meters.

It too me many years to realize that Indian women, specially the younger ones do not go to bed with a saree.

Because that was the first thing struck my mind those days. It is hard to wear a saree even for 1 hr, and how come these women sleep with it?

Well, my mom's generation lived in sarees and slept in them too!

Don't they wear nighties? That too the characters are highly educated, wealthy women. You see!

Second impression was about slapping. Oh God, they slap just like that. They slap to the men, other women, sometimes within the family and sometimes to others who may be elders and big dons. But the women slap them just like that, as it is something like hand shaking.

Jokes apart, I wonder what concept people have of taking the law into their own hands. Is there no concept of domestic violence? Even stopping the person from slapping by holding their hand is treated as something very bold!!!

And yes... Treating their DILs like Divas and devils shows the 2 extremes of people. Yes, there are good and evil PILs. But how about the normal people?

Normal? Of course divas and devils are normal. What else do you want?

Going to jail is too dramatic. Almost every lead character has to go to jail to serve the purpose of a mega serial.
But it looks so artificial, so no confusion there.

I have some serial experience with my old mom who is rather very much addicted to it.

I know many elderly women who get excited and want to kill the vamp or shoot her and really get affected by what they see!

The number of episodes should be restricted to 15 -20 weeks.Otherwise dragging will go on.We could sense the episodes even afer a lapse of one year.Neither the office or domestic atmosphere is real.We feel like slapping the director first.Not only ladies, many retired men are addicts to serials.

That is the nice part isn't it? One does not have to worry about missing one or many episodes. One can always make up the story in between!

coming here after quite some time.Enjoyed your snippet on serials.Even I have wondered how they the world of women always have nothing else but plotting and gossiping.I think there are many women out there are doing better things than this.

Hi Kanaks, been soooo long! Yes, women in real life don't have time to plot endlessly against one another - yes they might gossip, there might be people who try to make each other's lives miserable, but plotting with goondas, poison, accidents etc ...... Seriously!!!

Hi Satchi,
Same pinch. We are having common reason to be here. Missing our respective BHs and landed here.

Ha ha serials. The only serial I watch is 'Seethayin Raman" tamil version of Siya ke Ram. That it was relayed three different times, but me and dd record it in set top box and see at our own time. Now don't even know they stopped relaying that. Now we watch in a mobile app. I couldn't even digest the trailer of coming up next. Just that's enough to understand the whole episode.

When my in-laws are here with the high volume I can catch up from where they left. During this cyclone TV was one of the things I never felt missing. My son and me used pull my mil's leg who will be 80 next year how she remembers the serials channel wise. Same artists in many serials adorning almost similar characters, I used to wonder how even she is catching up with the storyline, while she forgets important things I would have conveyed to her and keep asking same thing again and again.

Every line of your post is the astonishment about serials everybody has and you have rightly said it. One more thing I like to add is exactly at the dusk, when we are lighting lamps and praying someone in the serial will be crying or cursing.
