    Hi ladies!
im new to this forum, I've got 20 kgs to lose:( long journey! I have a 2 year old and I don't find time to go to gym. The only thing I can do is skipping at home. I would like to know whether skipping is safe for ladies. Few people( they are not medical) are a bit skeptical saying some ligament s in uterus might tear for ladies. Is this true?

I would really ally really like to know if it's safe be coz I'm going to india in four months for a wedding and would like to lose as much weight as I can. Plz help.

    thank you,
    purni.

Try the you tube Leslie Sansone walk videos. Lots of great results on here with LS. You can alternate skipping with LS walks. I don't think skipping is bad. I would totally do it if I liked it. Along with exercise, make sure your diet is good and you are drinking enough water. Remember weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise.
Good luck on the weigh loss journey. You'll get lots of support and great recipes and meal ideas here.

I have heard the same, it displaces the uterus and causes sagging of breasts, so better avoid, I have heard about some new home workout video called 'insanity workout', why don't you try that?

Insanity is insane. I'm in great shape and insanity still kicks my butt. You can try it. It's an intense cardio workout.

insanity is for the driven. skipping needs healthy knees, proper shoes and no to people who are real obese. there is a risk of slipping your disk or hurting your knee. but slow skipping as in simple skips are allowed not the ones the fitness freaks show you.

Yes, I think Shanvy is right, skipping is probably even a more high impact workout than running.

Poo234, if you are just beginning to workout, or if you are not very fit, then you should choose a cardio workout which is low in impact and high in intensity, for example walking at an incline.

High intensity workout will improve your stamina, whereas high impact will make you more prone to injuries.

it is not ligament tear in uterus.. it is the worst possible case. sometimes there is a risk of hernia, and that is rare. but you never know these days we women folk are so susceptible to injuries and ailments that i wonder what is wrong with us. recently a girl known to be broke her shoulder joint trying to position a discuss and mind you not a shot put. right now she has a plate inserted and finds it very difficult with day to day work..

so tread with caution with exercises. either gradually increase the intensity. as i always say listen to your body, it knows you better and warns you even before you realise. it is more about not giving too much importance to that warnings and going overboard with the enthusiasm when we hear or see somebody doing it,that lands us in trouble.

    all the best..

What kind of skipping? using skipping rope or just the motion of skipping? just like running since you need a soft landing you should have good sports shoes and sports bra(yes breasts can get saggy like with running or any cardio exercise because you are putting down fat and not doing anything to build up pectoral muscle)...also the number of skips is more important than the height to which you jump. I would not suggest doing just 1 kind of exercise which probably concentrates on a few large group muscles.

If you have never worked out before start with -
1)walking - eg:3 Mile Slim & Sleek Walk - Walk Away The Pounds - YouTube
2)other cardio - Fat Burning Cardio Workout - 37 Minute Fitness Blender Cardio Workout at Home - YouTube
3)abs in the series - fitness blender, Jillian Micheals etc

Do try mix and match with everything...there are tons of videos of how to a proper lunge or a crunch or a squat....alternatively there are several fitness groups in IL like:

    Hi all,
thank you for ur replies.. Bought the skipping rope.. Very difficult to do it when my little one is around:) I do it when he goes to play school. Combined it with the 5:2 diet for the past one month and I've lost around 7 pounds.. All going well and gud luck to those trying to shift those pounds!
