Gene Kelly is magical and tapping when singing in the rain. If I were to sing in the rain, I wonder what would I do? I would warble a song that transcends language and tenor. I will break out into a song that will scare the chittering mocking birds. So here a compilation of songs that make you feel that way. (1) In an international language (a) That you don't understand (b) No Indian regional language (2) In a tune that is playful (3) In a movie or album or sound track
I never miss an Asterix movie on tv. Recently I watched "Asterix and the Mansion of the Gods" and was enchanted by this song. I don't understand a word. I don't understand the language. Yet it makes me want to bob to the playful music. Here's bora bora for you.
I like to go back to Miyazaki films as often as I can. I recently watched Howls Flying Castle, Totoro, Ponyo again. Maurice Sendak and Miyazaki are two artists I love for their wacky and cheerful characters Here's the theme song of Totoro in Japanese. And also in English.
People from a certain generation and times will recall this smoothery song. Not only the original Romanian song but the cascading parodies are forever enshrined in youtube. Here's the original Romanian version. I don't know what is it about listening to songs that make no sense which appeal to me, perhaps, the limitless interpretations of the undulating vocables. I play this song for the familiar gusto and not the alien gurgle.
Hm what if I broke your rules for the thread and posted a short instead? 'Rain' reminded me of this video, about a girl in London annnd its a real cute, silly animation! Hope you enjoy. Rain or Shine, directed by animator Felix Massie, follows little girl Ella and her pair of sunglasses.
Discovered this performance of A.R. Rahman's divine “Kun Faya Kun”, a qawwali by Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. It was performed live by The Berklee Indian Ensemble at Symphony Hall, Boston. Loved everything about the performance including the barely perceptible and totally adorable accents! Kept imagining my children doing something like this. How this mother's heart will sing with joy if they find a way to fuse their parents' world with their own! : )
