Please go to a thread of mine, Markazi-the month of kolams in festivals, Rituals sub-forum, I think. I have posted many kolams there.
We draw padi kolams for functions. I do not know more than that.
    Love,
    Chithra.

Did not know that Kolam has so much signficance & properties.
    Really very informative.
I stay in a flat so there is no way that i can put kolam in front of the door.
The space also isn`t that much.

I don't agree, it is not possible. I draw tiny kolams on both sides of the entrance door - you must have seen in one of the photos, I have posted.
I believe deeply in putting kolam.
    Love,
    Chithra.

    Hi geevee,

    I agree with Chithra.
We have a very small space and our door opens onto four other apartments. We draw a small star/lotus kolam.
Also, I have experienced that when u get up and are still sleepy, it gives u a good exercise in cleaning the entrance and your mind becomes actives when u finish the kolam.:thumbsup

    Dear Chitra Mam,

Very nice thread. I have missed out for these days.

I will surely try to put the small kolams (maakolam) on Thursday evenings and keep flowers.

You have very nicely explained us in detail about the kolam and kaavi. Really very nice.

There are no words to praise your work. In each and every aspect, you are our Guru as because by reading your posts, we are becoming more traditional and follow our culture (more than what our mother taught us).

Thank you very much. My :bowdown:bowdown:bowdown to you.

    Hello aunties,
i have read all the great info on this thread, thank you. I am learning about these Kolams because I like them a lot.

    Some questions:
    1. There was mention of differences in vaisnava and saiva kolams, I would like to know more about this. esp. if anyone has examples (pics)

    2. What are common kolam designs used for yajnas, pujas, festivals, samskaras, any specifics would be most welcome.

    3. Does anyone know any other good resources for pictures of kolams and learning tools etc... ?

Thank you all so much again for the info, It's hard for me to get an indian girl to even look at me, let alone teach me about her culture...:hiya
