The tortoisse coloured feline ‘Tama’ born and raised in Kishi Railway Station, Japan wears a formal uniform cap of Wakayamal Electric Railway. She does not harm anyone and calmly watches passenges who greet her. She works 9 to 5 everday and takes Sundays off, is the only female in a managerial position of 36 strong workforce and holds the 5^thhighest position in the company. A former ticket booth is renovated to be her office. She has got a toilet too as she declines to relieve herself. She gets her feed in lieu of salary. She is the stationmaster for 10 train stations on the 14.3 kms line.

What has got her the pivotal post? The Railway officials say that she has brought in lots of luck and the revenue has been increasing with every passing year.

She was brought to the station by a cleaner and kept by a local who runs a grocery next door The railway line was losing money and the station went unmanned in the year 2006. Tama stuck around at the platform and her loyalty has paved the way. She was appointed as the “Stationmaster” in January 2007 and soon after her appoinment the number of passengers using the line rose by 17% from a year earlier. From March 2007 the numbr of passengers rose to 2.1 million compared to the past 12 months. This gave Tama an elevation in her position of”SUPER STATIONMASTER’.

Everyday she commutes from the grocery shop next to the station. All that the grocer says is, “Ms Stationmaster, it is time to work” and she comes along to the station to dorn her cap and does her work dutifully. She will be appearing in one of the French documentaries as the Wonder Cat from around the world.
