It all depend what kind of machine you have, some machine machine do have fabric setting. also it depend what needle you are using for silk use needle no 8 or 10. ts for light fabric.some time if you having hard time in stitching place paper underneath and do the machine the cloth will not shrink and it is much easier.

    Which needle to use?

    Hi Ladies,

I am trying to stitch a light weight 'crepe kind of' cloth. But when I try to stitch it, the fabric threads get pulled and gathers near the stitch. I am using a USHA machine for the past 5 months. The needle is the one given by the manufacturer. I have tried is out at various tensions,it works fine. Also thick clothes get stitched well.

Please help me solve the problem. I am either using a wrong size needle or the tension is too much. I cant make out the reason.

    Looking forward to your responses......

    Re: Which needle to use?

    Hi Swati,

Use a needle of a smaller size (number 8 -10) for light weight fabrics. The needle that comes with the sewing machine is mostly for general purpose sewing. You can refer to the chart below for additional information.

    Re: Which needle to use?

    Hi Sunitha,

Thank you very much for your valuable suggestion!!

However I did not find a needle from no 8 to 10 in Pune but got one at no 11. This worked absolutely fine.

    Bye
    Swati

Thanks for the info. I bought size 14 needles from singer showroom and also bought TVS needles from the shop you mentioned (opp to liberty theatre).
