Why do we remove our footwear before entering the temple? There are many people who think, it is below their prestige to remove footwear before entering the temple!! What ignorance?? According to our religion, the temple is considered as divine premises. That does not mean God is present only there. The ground inside the temple has magnetic power. When we place our feet on the floor, the magnetic rays enter our body. The trees and plants inside the temple, the flowers and leaves like tulsi, vilwam etc contribute to the healing atmosphere present inside. All these assist the magnetic therapy to help our system become more immune. If there is less time, we just enter the temple ‘praahaarams’, pay obeisance to the deity and move on. It is thus explained. Because the temples are built according to vasthu shastra, geo energy is prevalent inside the temple, being extracted from heat stored in the earth. The vasthu power converts the static energy to dynamic energy and we get positive results from the atmosphere prevalent inside temple premises because our system gets more energized. It is relevant to read my old thread Why do we go to temple ? Why are men asked to be bare-bodied above the wast inside a temple? This is scorned by many, as indecent and irrelevant. Science explains it thus. The consecrated deity continuously emanates positive energy. The bare body absorbs this energy and we facilitate this process. Women cannot follow this practice for reasons of modesty. In the morning and evening, sun’s rays entering the human body is an additional reason, thereby helping one absorb vitamin D from them. Going to temple, every morning and evening used to be a healthy ritual, religiously (pun intended!) followed! In the early morning, people used to have a bath in the river adjacent to the temple and enter. The wet clothes around the stomach, helps reduce the temperature inside and facilitate digestion. This is prescribed by Nature cure where it is followed as a treatment. Now we know, why people used to go to temples in the morning everyday! To get divine blessings coupled with health benefits!!
Dear Chitra Mami, After a long break yesterday i got time to browse through the forums here and came upon this lovely section. It is indeed valubale information passed to the young generations who ask more questions- why, what if... Thank you so much for giving answers which would quench their thirst as it applies logical reasoning. Entering into the temple premises surely energises one and gives utmost peace and satisfaction........the reason i came to know now. Thanking for sharing such good things with people like me who are ignorant about some facts and would like to learn more. Love, Parvathi.
Thanks, Paru, for coming here & sending me a feedback!! This section has few takers & hence my enthusiasm is dampened!:-( Love, C
Dear Mrs. Chitra. Thank you for posting this information. Very valuable! Especially the bare-torso fro men. When I share wedding pictures at my workplace the first question from the westerners are "why is the priest not wearing a shirt?" now I have an answer. What most people fail to realize is our hot temperature and our dhoti, sari are the best dresses to wear in tropical places. If they notice all over the world people wear clothes to protect from nature. Unfortunately our men have adopted the pants from the west and now women are adopting them and the churidhar too in materials that do not wick the sweat away from the skin. Another scientific based activity that my school teacher told us many years ago : the reason women put "kolam" early in the morning is actually the bending and stretching to give them a quick workout to help do household chores later in the day. In margazhi month the huge kolams actually warm them up because it takes longer and more bending/stretching routine.
Dear Chitra maam, Thanks a lot for sharing such wonderful information. I always thought the rituals in Hinduism is someway or the other related to the health and wellness of human body and mind. People were not allowed to ask questions and were asked to follow the rituals blindly. The reason behind practising such rituals or the knowledge regarding the same were not shared properly. When we get to know the scientific reasons behind such rituals, it is amazing, at the same time very informative and educative. Please continue to do this great work and Iam surely learning a lot of things from this thread.
Dear Amma, I just add what I read somewhere, it is believed that by leaving behind the chappals we should also leave behind all our worries complaints n go inside humbly to His presence with pure thoughts with no material longings.....this way we commune with Him....we break coconut to symbolically say, God please empty me n break me free of material longings , attachments n take me up like an offering.........
Dear Abibaby, Very often we were not allowed to ask questions because the answers were not known to many! As simple as that. Ocourse superstitions do continue, I don't deny. But many have scientific backing. Thanks & love, C
Dear Bunny, Wht you have shared with us are also good explanations!! Breakiing coconut is also suposed to symbolise breaking our ego!! Thanksfor the informations. Love, C
Dear Aunty, We were always curous about so many 'whys' since childhood, but did not have the guts to ask elders. Now, without asking, you are providing the answers. Thanks a lot! Raji
But, Raji, I will continue only if you all read these & there are enough views!! I am not worried about FBs, but only views encourage me! Love, C.
