2. I trust you had recalled the previous anecdote connecting this colonel while My army jeep got stuck over the Borivili hills behind national park during monsoon rain. Same colonel who wrote my dossier and recommended for out of turn promotion and further elevation in rank.

A well narrated episode.In many of the banks in 1970s, salary was for attendance and overtime wages for the real work. Contrary to what you have stated,they used to finish off all their private work during regular office hrs and do actual work only during over time.This went on for nearly 10 years and many people bought own house with overtime wages.At last a disciplined gentleman took over as manager, slowly and steadily within a period of two months, over time was totally abolished.The employees alone could not be blamed.A few officers at high ranks were responsible who justified the necessity of overtime.A few officers who were not confident of their own efficiency had to depend on people in lower ranks who were simply brilliant and on whom the higher ups depended to a great extent. The intelligent people in low ranks were killadis in picturising the work to be really difficult and monotonous, wantonly make some arithmetical inaccuracies,pretend to solve them for long and ultimately crack the issue during overtime.

It was manual accounting those days and sometimes there used to arise genuine mistakes in fourth or fifth digits while figures ran to crores.We were experts in adding three digits together .Some messengers, Class 4 staff ,studied upto 8th std were so brilliant in arithmetic and they would easily find out if the difference was in multiples of nine when 56 was posted as 65 or 47 was posted as 74.
Annual closing was an event in itself and it was a pleasant experience to see books balancing one by one.
I think I have gone out of the way.There were areas where the volume of work was really heavy and only a few people could handle them.In such occasions 'over time' was really justifiable to make smooth functioning of banking system .

4. Foremen refused to be promoted to officer rank as that would deprive overtime entitlement.I noticed in some cases overtime payment was far in excess of their monthly emolument.
5. With the way you plunge into writing appropriate FB with alacrity, one feels that you had currently overcome back-ache and your spine turned robust.

In almost all democratic nations, the systematized process enables rich to get enriched at the cost of intigents or poor who get progressively impoverished.
2. In some communist countries the poverty and richness are equally distributed with effort .
3. God's ways are always strange for a purpose which human mind can never unfathom.
4. Among Day time politicians, during business hours a handful of them pretend that they are for poor and nocturnal hours they turn Casanova to remain with affluents' club.
