    Sarees are more famous in India. It has a very special place in the hearts of Indian women. It’s an ancient form of attire used by women in India. The style of draping the saree may vary from state to state but the grace with which they carry it is quite remarkable. Plenty of varieties &designs are available in the market today. Each state of India has got an unique way of

    Show casing their skill and the weaves produce a sophisticated end product. Sarees prepared or weaved in a particular state has a badge of its own and from the raw material to the finished out come everything symbolises the state & the weavers.

    A list of states & it’s traditional produce.

    Andhra Pradesh – Gadwal, Dharmavaram, pochampally

    Assam - Moonga silk

    Chattisgarh - - Tussar, kantha, madhubani paintings

    Delhi - Printed silk saree

    Gujarat - Gathjora, patola

    Jharkhand - kantha,kosa silk

    Karnataka - chinta mani, kasouti work, Karnataka silk

    Madhya Pradesh – chanderi,Maheswari

    Maharashtra - paithani, pune saree

    ilakal is new to me @Anisu. mysore silk the first saree i bought my mom 30yrs back with the money saved.:blush:

    does kadavu have a special pattern or something..
    venkatagiri sarees.

    the lucknowi chickankari sarees,
    phulkari sarees i presume punjab, the sozni sarees from j&k,
    kutch, minakari sarees,
    again kalahasti kalamkari

    chirala (ap) cotton sarees, kota sarees, kora sarees. organza?
    jute,khadi,linen and banana fibre sarees

    personally a cotton and cotton blend saree lover.
    but would love to get a toda embroidered saree. there is something pleasing in the geometrical prescision of the embroidery.


    the mixing of traditions and regions has made inroads in reviving the 6 yards..

    should be lovely to drape. have seen this but did not know it was ikkal..

    a friend of mine is into sarees and wears them everyday with the perfect accessories that i learnt a few..
