Yikes. You discuss current events with mom? I stopped when both parents joined the BJP this time. I just cannot for the life of me understand how the two liberal people who raised me can pay money to join the BJP, get party membership and proudly display it on FB for the entire world to see. I'm not talking, if I start, I'm going to explode.

I have a daughter in HS varsity sports. I know what a coach can do to a young woman. I wouldn't want that man anywhere within a one mile radius of my child. I completely agree with you. This is relatable to us. Similarly, these four men who can perpetrate such pain to a woman aren't around anymore. Maybe people have some measure of relief. Btw, I have a cousin who lives within a mile radius of the kidnapping spot and uses this same road daily. My BP shot up at least ten points imagining various scenarios where she is stuck in a disabled vehicle driving back late at night and such goons show up.

Absolutely. The police were covering up their tracks. They probably don't have witnesses for their own mismanagement of the case. Of course they did it in their best interest.
Was it really murder? I never followed the news on this guy and have no clue what happened there. But I believe corrupt cops exists everywhere. Our guys are also trigger happy. It's so hard to see boys of color being taught to react to traffic stops by parents.

Most of the people I'm talking to are cautiously ok with this particular case. Just like you and I are ok with Persky not being around young girls. This is not an extension to every case nor is it a blanket sanction.

Did you see the videos of the Nirbhaya men a year after incarceration? How much did this year in prison make them pay for their crimes? Did they learn anything in the year since being in prison and being at the bottom of the prison food chain? In fact, I wonder how much the victim's family went through hearing those monsters talk about the brutal rape so casually.

When it's okay for prisoners to be raped and brutalized and tortured and made to commit suicide, why isn't it okay for them to just die? Because they didn't get the slow prolonged death? That also sounds inhumane. Even death row inmates are given a painless death.

Multiple victims families who are going through this process have come forward to talk about it and how they haven't been able to grieve their loss. How they are traumatized by this very process of going to a courtroom and facing everything the justice system has to offer. Going by their experience, the justice system in India isn't really for the victim.

I agree with your observations but I think in this case, I'm ok if people are relieved these guys are not around to brutalize more and to hurt the family more by their mere existence. I believe this is the best way the family can grieve and get some semblance of perceived justice.

Even if we had all of the above until the MENtality of the majority of the population changes, nothing will change.
The burden will always be on us.

I totally agree. The mentality has to change. But until then, fear is the only way to keep things under some semblance of control.

One of the accused chennakessavulu’s mom is extremely arrogant!!

I saw an interview and she says that “why did priyanca come
Out late?she earns so much this and that and to top it police can’t encounter but put her son for two years or few months in jail”..

seriously??? What an arrogant lady?No wonder she raised a bloody useless son.She herself is not okay with her thoughts..No one feel bad for those parents losing their kids.

Even if the court had rightfully proved that the son is guilty, looks like these families will still support their sons

They are ignorant so we don't need to pay attention to their statements.

I also read some news articles where the rapists' parents denounced the crime and said their child should get the harshest punishment.
‘Burn my son the same way she was burned,’ says mother of accused Hyderabad gang rapist
Hyderabad encounter: Families of accused in total shock | Hyderabad News - Times of India

I'd not give much credence to what the families say. They have lost the main or only source of livelihood in the family. Some media person comes and asks questions, and they give an answer, addressing the news person as Madam. And also, some of the intended meaning is lost in translation. The person holding the microphone also asks such leading questions that the family answers without advance preparation.

Above all, it cannot be denied that the four did die without receiving the due process that was their right. Three of them look as if they are still teenagers in the photographs. Such a sad set of events all round.

Quite a few moms I know seem to think that campus laws and their enforcement are skewed in favor of women. They (and I to an extent) feel the ongoing consent and her word against his word are required concepts but the enforcement will mostly be unfair to men. Another debate by itself.

It is a movie. Not every boy or girl who watches it will think that is the way to behave. It is like Fifty Shades... Some women like that kind of relationship. Or like to read books or watch movies with that theme while being independent and assertive in real life. I don't think every movie has to be one with a socially correct message.

I like to think that young girls, at least in the 16+ age group are smart enough to be able to differentiate between movies and real life. They see how their mothers behave in real life also. My DD and I share a Kindle sometimes.. what can I say.. : ) She knows the lows and highs of my literary forays. : ) I watch classic movies and also good quality rhymes-with-corn. : )

Again, it is just a movie. We have movies that carry a clear social message, and some that are only a cinematic portrayal of a story. I found Section 375 to be well made. Took me a while to comprehend the ending. The court room arguments were filmy but interesting. Should movies be made that focus on actual cases where men get falsely accused? Yes.

I guess we see the job of movies and movie makers differently. I look for well-made movies with a good storyline and good acting. It need not always be one with the right social message.
