Few years ago my aunt who was then in her 50s was suffering from diffuse hair loss (Chronic Telogen Effluvium). It involves an increased rate of hair fall and subsequent thinning from all over the scalp. There are a number of reasons that diffuse hair loss may occur, including a lack of certain nutrients, stress, or as a side effect of illnesses such as anemia and thyroid conditions.

A specialist suggested her the following remedy.Apply a tsp of Iodine, diluted in sesame oil, all over the scalp, leave overnight and wash. This worked like a charm and 6 months later she had a head full of hair. This remedy also works in treating alopecia.

I read a similar remedy from a book “Grow hair fast” written by a famous Tricohologist which calls for applying a mixture of white iodine and castor oil in equal amounts.

In the "Beauty Secrets of India" book by Monisha Bharadwaj the author’s Grandmother sure shot recipe for hair fall was to apply to the scalp on alternate days for 4 days a tiny amount of castor oil and iodine.

Usually any remedy will give complete benefits results after 3 to 6 months of consistent usage. For instance, I used coconut milk hair pack to stop hair fall, it did help control hair fall within a month of usage but continued usage gave me more benefits like hair growth, reducing split ends.

My aunt used this iodine remedy once or twice a week a night before taking a head bath for upto 6 months.Apart from this she also took care of her vitamin deficiencies through diet. She then switched to applying coconut hair oil (unrefined made from coconut milk) for maintainence. She is fine now.

Any time one switches to unhealthy habits such as using chemical products, harsh tools and poor diet will definitely invite hair issues.Hair reflects our health,it is vital to eat healthy, drink enough water and use mild or chemical free products for maintenance.

You can try getting lugols iodine solution or white iodine solution from your local pharmacy or online.

My aunt used Lugol's Iodine solution, its available on amazon, such as these https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lugol+iodine&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
But I do not know which brand she had used. The only drawback is it stains, so use a sheet to save your pillow cover. One of the book that I mentioned suggested using white iodine (de-colorized).Make sure to use pure unrefined sesame oil (black sesame seed oil is even better) or castor oil. Here is a screenshot from grow hair fast.If interested, the book "Grow Hair Fast: 7 Steps to a New Head of Hair in 90 Days" is available for purchase on amazon.I once read it at a public library and found it interesting.

What you eat and drink is very important for hair health and you need to resolve the issues that is causing hair fall/thinning such as stress, poor nutrition, hormonal imbalance etc.In my aunts case it was just the stress and poor diet that took a toll on her hair. She was able to resolve them. She always kept away from abusive hair styling/coloring products and tools and uses a wooden comb.I haven't tried this remedy yet as I am currently using Ayurveda hair oil as a part of my hair care routine.Start with a positive mind and be consistent with your efforts. If this doesn't work for you even after trying for 3-6 months, please do visit a Trichologist or an Ayurvedic physician as poor hair is a sure sign of a health issue that needs to dealt.I hope this helps. thank you very much for all the details Veena. I can see stress being a major cause, I dont do any chemicals, shampoos, coloring things and all. Except for the weekly sesame oil+shikakai bath, am not consistent in my hair care routine. tried onion juice for sometime, eat nuts but again not consistent.

As you said, I have to reduce my stress levels and improve my sleep patterns.
