I am not that much of a believer of the wisdom: "Expectation is the root of all heartache." or "Expectation is the cause of disappointment.", finding those to be too fatalistic for my liking. But, somehow, when it comes to the topic of children marrying, whom they marry, when they will marry, will they stay married, will they be happy with their partner... I am strangely detached. I really don't know why. I do have some vague hopes ... but the preferred or hoped-for profile of their partner never gets even a faint definition in my mind. The gender, ethnicity, age, education, financial status, believer/atheist/... of partner, will they go through a formal wedding or registration remains undefined. I want my child to be happy, and his/her partner to be happy, as partner's happiness impacts my child's happiness. That, good health, and the strength to get through tough times in the relationship.

All this is in my mind. Better-half is more grounded and closer to reality. His thoughts on the topic are quite succinct, 'they fund their own wedding.' : )
