I was flipping a book on Portuguese music in the library, when I noticed the word "rain". Just some random page with rain! The song listed against that rain is Chove Chova. Further internet search revealed the translated chorus as "It rains, it rains rain, it rains without stopping... It rains rain, it rains without stopping..." The original song by Jorge Ben is A perkier and mangled English version is Endless is the rain ..so is the rain thread ! (I must tell this to Geeta, forthwith!) Incidental trivia: Jorge Ben also sang something on Taj Mahal. (With Rod Stewart's controversy around it. I go in search of rain and discover Taj Mahal)
Wow! Lovely songs to divert the mind from the hot summer here. Thanks, dear. The first video can easily pass off for a Bengali/ Assamese song. In all the three albums there are some Indian notes. The second album is so typically 60s melody; so many of our Indian songs copied this style! I feel Jorge Ben was definitely influenced by Indian music especially the instrument sitar.
Here is a satisfying rain song by Dr Palash Sen. The heavily pouring rain will definitely reduce heat perception by a few degrees, I am sure. Enjoy!
Here is a 1945 song By Ameerbai Karnataki. Movie: Mazdoor (1945) Song Lyricists: Gopal Singh Nepali Music Director: H.P. Das
Movie: Tumhara Kalloo (1975) Singers: Chitra Singh (Chitra Dutta) Music Composer: Kanu Roy This is a coming of age movie based on the life of a young man named Kalloo, who lives with his wealthy family in a small village in India. Music seems impressive. There is also a melodious quawali in this movie. If interested google for 'Hashar Mein Unka Jab'
I too would have placed my matching bets on Bengali as the near-match. I know very less of music, so, pleasantly surprised that you too found uncanny indianness in the strum of Jorge.
I haven’t heard about the singer Palash since his Euphoria days. That bolted feeling, it’s been so long to watch him again. Not sure if the following song has already been mentioned. Well, it’s a tune rather than a song. But, an unveiling tune that sparks the heart of cute Madhavan in the torrent.
I love Imagine Dragons! Here is their ‘Born to be yours’ acoustic melody. And I know when it rains, oh, it pours And I know I was born to be yours Goofy observation: In the beginning visual of the song, when ‘you take me for a fool’ is played, the background image is that of a flower, fool!, or hamara phool?!
