I have a question. If anybody knows or in a similar situation please give your inputs...

If we get our Green Card, is it possible that we can leave this country and settle in India? Then what would happen to our GC status. Would it still be valid or when would it expire? Or do we have stay here for at least 6 months a year to keep it valid?

Pls could anyone throw light on this?

    Hi,

My sister is also located at Herndon, VA only...:)

Regarding your query, what i heard is we can travel, no need of Visa but shouldn't exceed our stay more than 6months outside U.S.

Yes, you can be outside US for not more than 6 months. But you want to settle down in India, the permanent resident status is lost.

It is possible to be outside the US for up to 2 years while on a GC if one gets a travel document. However, this travel document will only allow the GC to be kept alive; the time spent away from the US will not be counted while calculating your residency towards citizenship.
    Hope this helps!
