    Dear ILs,

There is an increasing awareness about the use of Pulses and their Sprouts nowadays. Recently,I have been watching it in the media Computer Typing too about how important it is for health & to maintain Protein intake.

Yes, Pulses are very good sources of Protein, esp for Vegetarians.
We are Vegetarians and our Protein intake is mainly depended on Pulses(other than Milk):coffee. We consume it almost every day. More over, I'm always fascinated by this ingredient - Soya Bean.

Other than Protein, Pulses are also good sources of B-Vitamins :thumbsup. Plus Sprouting enhances Carotene content, B Vitamins and make it a very good source of Vitamin - C
(Note : Vitamin C is not otherwise present in Pulses)

What I basically want to discuss here is

    1. To list the names of the Pulses, as many of us are not aware of all the Pulses. I request you to give other language names (could be in any language) in brackets eg. Green Gram (Moong, Pasi Payaru, Pacha Payaru). As this will help our readers to pick up the right ingredient.

    2. Share your knowledge on the Health aspects of Pulses.

    3. Tell every one your favourite recipe (use low Cholesterol & Low Calorie as much as possible as many are Diet Conscious. Post Pictures if possible.

    4. How to Make Sprouts? Have you made it? If so how? In what recipes have you used it.
    Post Pictures if possible

    5. Ask Questions & get Instant Answers :cheers on anything about Pulses, Health, Health Tips, Nutritive Values of Food, RDA, etc.

Look out for more information about Pulses; Easy way to Make Sprouts; RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowances for Indians) of Proteins for various groups.....

    Hi Custard,

What I do with my sprouts is when I want to add them in a salad or puffed rice...I just microwave them for 1 minute. They get cooked easily retaining their moisture and taste great as a side dish.

    regards

    hi custard,
    healthy topic.
i like moong sprouts. i have a sprout maker which i use for sprouts.<?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O /> when i make bhel puri i mix the moong sprouts. another one, when ever you make moong dosa make sure that you use moong sprouts only. Sprouts provide all the essential vitamins and minerals. They should form a vital component of our diet. Sprouting requires no constant care but only an occasional sprinkling of water. here is the link to the sprout maker i have and this link tells us how to make sprouts using sprout maker.

hi, one of my friend made this healthy salad with chickpeas, paneer etc

chana(kabuli)-2 cns or boiled ones are also good
paneer-1/4 block(cut it into small pices)
    red onion-small pieces-maybe 1/4 or 1/2
    cucumber-1/2(cut into small pieces)
    coriander leaves-
    chillies-very small slices
    salt-as your taste
    carrot(grated)-1/4 or approximately
    chat masala powder
    oil-2tbsp

fry the paneer (i prefer baked). add chana and fry it. don't fry too much. it can be burn. now add other ingredients except chat powder and mix it. turn off the stove and sprinkle the chat masala powder and mix it one more time. lastly add coriander. hope everybody likes it.

Any idea What is "Bajalu Hinjalu" ??? Once, I saw it in the same Programme. It looked like Green Peas with a small tail. If you know about it, Please give its English name or Tamil name.Thanks.

And I just went through the web page u had given about Sprouts Maker. Is it true, we cannot mix 2 or more beans to make Sprouts??
