These guidelines are being offered by a vet named., Dr.Larry...

    Q. what do we need on hand before we take our pet from the shelter?

    A. Puppies are generally easy to prepare for--
    Here are the guidelines:

    1. Bowls: Good, heavy, ceramic or stainless steel water and food bowls. Make them a bit heavier and larger than you would think so the puppy will not be as likely to knock them over. Avoid plastic bowls, as they scratch easily and harbor bacteria.

    2. Food: Purchase whatever food the shelter has been feeding the puppy. Continue this diet until you consult with your vet. Less the change the better. Inquire how does the shelter staff have been feeding the puppy, how many times a day, and how much?
Make your puppy's routine as consistent as possible the first week.

    3. Water: Tap water is fine. Bottled water is nice.

4 .A place to sleep: A place where the puppy will sleep--- warm, quiet and away from drafts.
Provide clean blankets or pillows and wash them often.

    5. Toys and bones: Any kind of commercial dog toy or bone that is available at the shelter or a local pet store. Always think bigger when you think of toys or bones. The larger they are, the less chance of pieces breaking off and causing problems. Do not use socks, butcher bones or other household items.
Commercially prepared bones and toys are made to be safe.

Last but not the least, take him to a vet so he has everything he needs to stay healthy and happy.

    Hi Sriniketan
    Thanks for this information.
Yesterday my son had been to animal shelter, and now he wants to adopt a puppy, have stopped him at present becoz will be going soon on a holiday so it is difficult to keep the puppy in anyone's house.
These tips are really good and helpful
    Thanks for sharing them...........
