Hello everyone, I have taken up a residential job opportunity with a company in Ahmadi (Kuwait). Kindly, shed some light on schooling options for my 2.5 year old daughter. I intend to put her in preschool in June. Which board should I prefer ICSE or CBSE, keeping in mind that I will return to India after 3 years. Is Kuwait ok to move in with family ? Is it safe ? Could you tell me about the approx cost of living ? When is school holiday season in Kuwait ? How is public transport in Kuwait ? My spouse is averse to driving. I welcome all feedback from you guys. Anything or everything related to Kuwait.
My daughter goes to DPS ahmadi. It has both CBSE and ICSE boards. Unfortunately, they take only LKG admissions.. Till then, there are good indian run playschools in mangaf, fahaheel that are a 20 min travel from ahmadi. Schools close around 1-12th june and open arnd 20aug-1sep.. Depends on eid holidays.. Ahmadi is predominantly non indian, whereas mangaf abuhalifa and fahaheel areas are mostly indians and mangaf is mostly southindians.. You might need 200+ for a 1BHK, 300 for 2BHK and that is only rent.. Anywhere between 150-200 (having a kid increases expenses manifold)for living expenses and playschool starts around 50+10(transport). If you have family status, good.Else, visa charges, medical charges add up to a lot. Public transport is not so good and we avoid unknown taxis as well..(Ahmadi is a little deserted comparatively) as it is mostly industrial n also an old town.. If you dont drive then you are dependent on taxis who will charge you min 5dinars for a 2 dinar meter. Kuwait is a good place for us because, So far, water, electricity n most things essential are subsidised.. Cheapest of all GCCs.. Safe to a good extent. You get treated somewhat decent.. Welcome and goodluck.
Thank you so much for your feedback and for taking the time to write here. I hope to ask some more questions in the coming months. Appreciate you for touching on issues ranging from cost of living, transport and most importantly preschool / schooling.
In government clinics, you need to get a kd 1 stamp and medicine, consultation is covered. Even routine tests are covered. There are GPs , gynaecs , pardiatricians in all clunics and each area has one. But, for kids n ladies. Men have in centralised places. Its according to where you live, you get to visit.I think you need to pay extra for xray and all.. If you need a reference for a specialist, your GP will write a reco and you will go to Adan or someother place. Private health care is expensive. 15 kd is the cheapest for file opening n 10 kd for a month. If you visit again in a month 5. But BMC or royal hyatt, apollo can charge you double that. If your company pays for your insurance, then you pay nominal but you are safe to have a 'family status'. This is a general observation only.Indisnsinkuwait.com is more comprehensive. My knowledge is limited as we are with the oil sector and it takes care of us.
