    Dear IL-ites,

August always brings a load of patriotism for every Indian. Doesn’t matter if you are in India or abroad, our nation’s Independence Day is an occasion worth celebrating.

To celebrate the most important national festival of India, participate in our Photo of the Month contest. Click a picture that explains what independence means to you. Portray liberty, freedom and patriotism through you camera lens.

The best picture will win an excellent prize. The contest ends on 25th August, 2012.

Here's my entry for the "Photography Contest for August 2012 - Theme - Independence".

Nothing speaks more of Independence and freedom than a muslim woman infront of a Buddhist monastry near Kushalnagara in Coorg district of Karnataka, home to hundreds of monks, visited by even more Indians of all faiths. This pictureexplains Independence to me and portrays liberty, freedom and makes me feel proud to be Indian and hopefully has brought out the pride I feel about the unity in diversity through my camera lens!

    Here's the Picture :)

    Hi,

This photo depicts the happiness of a kid being an Indian even though the kid is surrounded by poverty. Photo taken during hoisting of independence day flag by an NGO in chennai. The poor fellow has no place to pin the flag.

    Independence.jpg

For me, 'Independence Day' means my daughter dressed in a t-shirt hand painted by me, bangles bought specially for her by my maid, shoes specially flown in from Kolkata from her grandparents and she waiting to go into the park to sing the national anthem with her friends and teachers.

For me Independence means courage ,peace and prosperity .I couldn't think of anything apart from Indian Flag colors to represent it.So i asked Mrs. nirmala to help me creating this beautiful piece of art.

    Hope you like it.
