Why did I read an unsaid 'to you" at the end of the above sign-off? :innocent:

Read the term Cheer-haran... and immediately came to mind image of cheerleaders in ancient royal courts being deprived of their poms-poms and told "No more cheer-ing for you", to be led away and brought back more chastely attired.

    :)

:D Always heard it as cheer-haran growing up. Vastra-haran wasn't as popular in common parlance. Vastraabaranam is a word I learned from the thread. See, it is educational! : )

I think it is vastra-Abaharanam. I think it's misspelt as vastraabaranam. Vastra = clothes. Abaranam = ornament. Abaharanam = getting rid. I think. My Sanskrit is bad.

Cheer-haran is Hindi? What is cheer? Sari or clothes?

Aphaharanam-Stealing or taking away is very close to apakarippu in Tamil. Thanks to @jskls, I learned what is Cheer-haran.

Cheer is cloth. A synonym for Vastra. Haran is short for apaharan meaning forcibly removing or stealing.
