Pattu Pavadai for Justborn babies

Hi All,
My niece's naming ceremony falls on Oct 17,2011 and we are planning to buy her a pattu pavadai for the auspicious occasion. She is just 11days old. Kindly suggest shops at Chennai where I can buy pattu pavadai for her age as well as something that is affordable.
Kindly post your ideas asap as the date is very close.

Hi Preethi,

Minimum size as far as I know is for 1 year (wud be in range of 600 and above) get it and ask the tailor to stitch for just born kid, thys wud do that.

We did the same for our daughter

Are you looking for readymade or unstitched sets?

Unstitched sets, you can buy in Nalli, RMKV and any other shops which sell pattu sarees. Just tell the sales person that it is for new born and he will give the smallest size set. Not sure where you can get readymade ones.

I find TNagar good because there are many shops close to one another. If we dont like the collection in one shop, we can go easily to the next.

Hi,
Thank you both for your reply. I will definitely try Nalli & RMKV. Since date is too close, tailor may not be okay to stitch pattu pavadai.
But I have heard that Naidu Hall & Pothys have kids section. Any idea if pattu pavadai is available there?

hi.. try Nalli & Nalli 100... they have ready made pattu pavadai for new born also, but it would be just one piece like a frock, but with silk and contrasting borders... looks really cute! I bought 2 for my daughter's naming ceremony & now she is 5 months old and I got her another proper pattu pavadai(2 piece one) for diwali. it costs around 1000 bucks..

u can try in kalanikethan..they have the material..u can ask the tailor to get it stitched so that it can be used till 3-4 years.

I would suggest silk cotton rather than silk.Nowadays silk cotton resembles more or like silk and
its light weight also. Moreover kids grow fast and until they grow up ,chances of wearing pattu pavadai is less.Readymade silk cotton pattu pavadai or ghagra coli type is available in many shops .
Silk cotton frock is also a better choice.

Thank you all for the quick information. Now I got some idea where to buy pattu pavadai. Will surely try Nalli, RMKV for now as we dont have time for tailoring. Next time will try materials.
