i am a doctor, used to do oil paintings. now willing to learn tanjore painting.. used to do acrylic, water wash also. reading throuh these tanjore painting methods, you people are using poster colors , which are not water proof. why dont you use acrylic colors, which , once dried, becomes water proof and long lasting...

 

Actually water based colors doesn't mean they will diminish or vanish later.If they are pure like when we make our own color with pigment+gum+ distilled water, they are sure to remain for a long long time like the old paintings.

Nowadays we get high quality tube colors of a good company for coloring the figures.Moreover how many can be comfortable with quick drying acrylics, when they find it difficult to learn with slow drying water based colors?Of course, people proficient in painting can try any medium, unlike a beginner, as we can see from the queries here.


some of the old paintings get damaged not only due to the water based colors, but wrong preparation of the board, improper sticking of gold foil, and damage occurring on the board surface.

Hello, I have a query about board preparation, there are cracks on my board after the third muck coating. I guess I have added lot of arabic gum as the board looks brown now Will adding another muck coat with the right consistency help? Or please let me know what is to be done.

 

Any suggestions plz for the problem mentioned above
