This amazing man spent 44 years of his lifespan of 81 years in composing music. An unique feature of his songs is that it gives you a feeling of déjà vu and yet you love them. Madly too. This man had strong likes and dislikes. He had a love-hate relationship with Asha who was his favourite singer. He was born in Lahore and started learning music early in his life. He died in 2007 at the age of 81 survived by his wife, three daughters and a son. His granddaughter Niharica Raizada is an actress. He was essentially a restless soul and had a capacity to fall out with his kith and kin. Nayyar determinedly avoided recording with Lata as he felt her voice did not suit his compositions. He zeroed in on fledgling chanteuse Asha Bhosle. And what an amazing pair it turned out to be! When he and Asha parted ways in 1974, he started fading slowly. He scored music for only nine films thereafter until he called a day. He directed music for one Telugu film too titled Neerajanam in 1989. I now give my most favourite songs of OP Nayyar: My top favourite song from Mera Sanam. Asha sang this for beautiful Asha Parekh. Asha singing for Asha! A different kind of song from Nayyar. See how expressive is the veteran actor Dilip Kumar. An evergreen song from CID given eternal life by Dev Anand, Shakila, Shamshad Begum and Mohd Rafi. Sung by Asha and Rafi in Kashmir Ki Kali. The pretty Sharmila Tagore is the mother of the famous Star Saif Ali Khan. She is now 73! That's lovely song from Howra Bridge featuring Madhubala and Ashok Kumar. Thandi Hawa Kaali Ghata - Mr. & Mrs.'55 (1952). Geeta Dutt. That's Madhubala again in the movie Mr. and Mrs.'55 Guru Dutt was her co star.
Lovely songs Anna, old songs can be heard as many times we want and we don't get bored. I used to never miss Binaca Geetmala and while doing homework I used to keep the radio on and enjoy music.
@iyerviji My dear Viji Thanks a lot for your quick response. Listening to music over Radio used to be a thrilling experience. Our minds did not get distracted by any visual. Today 80% of the attention goes to the visuals. Sri
@GeetaKashyap Dear Geeta Thanks for your further contribution. Your last song is also my last song! Same pinch! Sri
Cheeniya Sir, I was thinking of may be you will write on either kalyanji Anandji or Op Nayyar jee. I like "lekar pehla pehla pyar" and " deewana hua badal " from your favorites. @GeetaKashyap me too like" babujj dheere chalna". Nayyar jee composed for one Telugu film Neerajanam and one of the song from that movie was huge hit on those days and my favorite too. Pukartha chala hoon from mere sanam Maang ke saath thumhara from Naya fair Aankhonki aanakhon from CID
@Mistt Dear Mistt I had also mentioned about the Telugu film Nirajanam. You probably missed it. Thanm you for your nice selection of songs. Sri
Cheeniya Sir, My whole concentration was on your selection of songs, to know more nice ones. I missed it and liked the full form for OP ( Over Powering ) given by you.
