Other Pearls of Wisdom--Narunthogai

71. வாய்ப்பறை யாகவும் நாக்கடிப் பாகவும்
சாற்றுவ தொன்றைப் போற்றிக் கேண்மின்.

Vaaipparai aagavum naakkadi paagavum
saatruvadhu onrai potri kenmin.

அறிவுடையோர், வாயே பாறையாகவும், நாக்கே குறுந்தடியாகவும் கொண்டு, அழுத்தமாக சொல்கின்ற எதையும் கேளுங்கள்.

Listen to the words of wise men, which is loud and clear (mouth is referred to the drum, tongue to the stick)

72. பொய்யுடை யொருவன் சொல்வன் மையினால்
மெய்போ லும்மே மெய்போ லும்மே.

Poiyudai oruvan solvanmai yinaal
mei polumme mei polumme.

பொய் கூறுவோரின் சொல் திறமையால், பொய்யும் உண்மை போல் இருக்குமே.

Due to the intelligence use of words by the liers, lies seem like truth.

73. மெய்யுடை யொருவன் சொலமாட் டாமையாற்
பொய்போ லும்மே பொய்போ லும்மே.

Meiyudai oruvan solamattaamaiyaal
poi polumme poi polumme.

உண்மையைச் சொல்லும் ஒருவன், திறம்பட சொல்ல முடியாத நேரத்தில், அவன் கூறும் உண்மையும், பொய் போல இருக்குமே.

Lack of words to explain the truth will make truth seems like a lie.

74. இருவர்தஞ் சொல்லையும் எழுதரங் கேட்டே
இருவரும் பொருந்த வுரையா ராயின்
மனுமுறை நெறியின் வழக்கிழந் தவர்தாம்
மனமுற மறுகிநின் றழுத கண்ணீர்
முறையுறத் தேவர் மூவர் காக்கினும்
வழிவழி யீர்வதோர் வாளா கும்மே.

தீர்ப்பை வழங்குவோர் எவராயினும், இரு தரப்பு வாதத்தையும் ஏழு தரம் கேட்டு, அலசி ஆராய்ந்து, உண்மையை உணர்ந்து, இரு தரப்பினரும் ஒத்துப் போகும்படி முடிவு கொடுக்காமல், அநீதியாக முடிவு சொன்னாறேயானால், தோல்வி உற்றவர், மனம் கலங்கி விடும் கண்ணீர், தீர்ப்புச் சொன்னவரின் சந்ததியை அழிக்க வந்த வாள் ஆகும்.. (மும் மூர்த்திகளாலும், காப்பாற்ற முடியாது)

The tears of the unfortunate souls, who did not receive a proper judgment, will act as a sword and severe the entire family tree of the person, who did not look into the truth as intended and gave a false judgment.

75. பழியா வருவது மொழியா தொழிவது.

Pazhiyaa varuvadhu pozhiyaadhu ozhivadhu.

பின்னாளில் பழி உண்டாக்கும் என தெரிந்த பிறகு, அதனை சொல்லாமல் இருப்பதே நல்லது.

It should be known that somethings which might bring harm, if spoken, should be kept in silence.

76. சுழியா வருபுன லிழியா தொழிவது.

Suzhiyaa varupunal izhiyaadhu ozhivadhu.

சுழித்து வரும் வெள்ளத்திலே, இறங்காது இருப்பது நல்லது. ( உயிரைப் பறிக்கும் வேலையில் ஈடுபடாதே)


It is better to be at shore than to get into a strong current. (do not indulge in life-threatening jobs)

77. துணையோ டல்லாது நெடுவழி போகேல்.

Thunaiyodu allaadhu neduvazhi pogel.

துணை இல்லாமல், நெடு தூரப் பயணம் செல்லாதே.

Do not go for a long journey ( pilgrimage) without a companion.

78. புணைமீ தல்லது நெடும்புன லேகேல்.

Punai meedhu alladhu nedum punal egel.

தெப்பத்தின் உதவி இல்லாமல், பெரிய வெள்ளத்தில் இறங்காதே (பிறவிக் கடல் கடப்பதற்கும் பற்றுக்கோடு தேவை)

With the help of a float, you can get across a flood.

79. எழிலார் முலைவரி விழியார் தந்திரம்
இயலா தனகொடு முயல்வா காதே.

Ezhilaar mulaivari vizhiyaar thandhiram
iyalaa thanakodu muyalvaa gaadhe.


பெண்கள் சொல்லும், தந்திர வார்த்தையினால் செய்யக் கூடாத செயல்களைச் செய்ய முயலாதே.

Do not even fall prey to those wicked words of women and do those jobs which are abandoned ( by wise men)

80. வழியே யேகுக வழியே மீளுக.

Vazhiye yeguga vazhiye meeluga.

(நல்) வழியே சென்று (நல்) வழியே வருக.

Go in the righteous path and be back in the same path ( do not get diverted on the way)

81. இவைகா ணுலகிற் கியலா மாறே.

Ivai kaanum ulagirkku iyalaa maare.

உலகத்தார் பின்பற்றுவதற்கான நல்ல நெறிகள் இங்கே கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது ( தொகுத்துக் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது)
