61. ஆரையாம் பள்ளத் தூடே வாழினும்
தேரை பாம்பிற்கு மிகவஞ் சும்மே.

Aaraiyaam palla thoode vaazhinum
therai paambirkku miga anjumme.

தேரையானது பூண்டு படர்ந்த பள்ளத்தினுள்ளே ஒளிந்து இருந்தாலும், பாம்பிற்கு அஞ்சும்.

Even as the toad is hiding in a bush, it fears the snake.

62. கொடுங்கோன் மன்னர் வாழும் நாடிற்
கடும்புலி வாழுங் காடு நன்றே.

Kodunkon mannar vaazhum naatir (kku)
kadumpuli vaazhum kaadu nanre.

நீதி நெறி இல்லாத அரசனின் கீழே வாழ்வதை விட, கொடிய புலிகள் வாழும் காட்டில் இருப்பதே மேல்.

Living in a jungle where ferocious animals live is far better than living under a dictator (here it is referred to the king)

63. சான்றோ ரில்லாத் தொல்பதி யிருத்தலின்
தேன்றேர் குறவர் தேயம் நன்றே.

Saanror illaadha tholpadhi iruththalin
thenror kuravar theyam nanre.

பெரியோர் இல்லாத ஊரில் இருப்பதைக் காட்டிலும், (தேன் தேடும் குறவர் நாட்டில்), மலை நாட்டில் இருப்பது நல்லது.

It is better to live in the hills than to live in a place where there are no wise men.

64. காலையு மாலையும் நான்மறை யோதா
அந்தண ரென்போ ரனைவரும் பதரே.

Kaalaiyum maalaiyum naanmarai oodhaa
andhanar enbor anaivarum padhare.

காலையும் மாலையும் வேதம் ஓதாத அந்தணர், பயன் இல்லாதவரே.

He is not called as a Brahmin, who doesn't recite the four Vedas in the mornings and in the evenings.

65. குடியலைத் திரந்துவெங் கோலோடு நின்ற
முடியுடை யிறைவனாம் மூர்க்கனும் பதரே.

Kudiyalai irandhu venkolodu ninra
mudiyudai iraivanaam moorkkanum padhare.

குடிமக்களை வருத்தி, பொருள் வாங்கி, கொடுமையான அரசாட்சி புரியும், மன்னனும், பதரே, பயனில்லாதவனே.

That king who makes his citizens suffer under his rule, is considered as a useless one.

66. முதலுள பண்டங் கொண்டுவா ணிபஞ்செய்து
அதன்பய னுண்ணா வணிகரும் பதரே.

Mudhalula pandan kondu vaanibam seidhu
ahdan payan unnaa vanigarum padhare.

முதலை மட்டுமே நம்பி வியாபாரம் செய்து, லாபத்தைப் பார்க்காத வணிகனும் பயனில்லாதவன். (போட்ட முதலை இழத்தலை இங்கே குறுப்பிடுகிறார்)

Those businessmen who do not enjoy the profits in his business due to relying only on his principal amount invested ...is considered useless.

67. வித்தும் ஏரும் உளவா யிருப்ப
எய்த்தங் கிருக்கும் ஏழையும் பதரே.

Viththum yerum ulavaa iruppa
eith thangi irukkum yezhaiyum padhare.

விதையும், ஏரும் தயாராய் இருக்க, உழவாமல், சோம்பேறியாக இருப்பவனும், பயனில்லாதவனே.

When seeds and the plough are ready to be used, those men who do not work on their land and lie lazy, is considered useless.

68. தன்மனை யாளைத் தாய்மனைக் ககற்றிப்
பின்பவட் பாராப் பேதையும் பதரே.

Than manaiyaalai thaaimanaikku agatri
pin vat paaraa pedhaiyum padhare.

தன் மனைவியை (காரணமே இல்லாமல்) அவள் பிறந்த வீட்டில் விட்டு விட்டு வந்தபிறகு, அவளைப் பார்க்காமல், திரும்பவும் தன் வீட்டிற்கு கூட்டிக் கொண்டு வராத ஆணும், பயனில்லாதவனே (ஆடவரில் பதர்)

Leaving behind one's wife in her parents house and who doesn't even care about her later, is considered a useless being.

69. தன்மனை யாளைத் தனிமனை யிருத்திப்
பிறர்மனைக் கேகும் பேதையும் பதரே.

Than manai yaalai thani manai iruththi
pirarmanaikku yegum pedhaiym padhare.

தன் மனைவியை விட்டு, பிறர் மனைவியைத் தேடிச் செல்லும், அறிவில்லாதவனும், பதரே.

Those men who leave behind their own wives and going after other men's wives, are also considered as a useless being.

70. தன்னா யுதமுந் தன்கையிற் பொருளும்
பிறன்கையிற் கொடுக்கும் பேதையும் பதரே.

Than aayudhamum thankaiyir porulum
piran kaiyir kodukkum pedhaiyum padhare.

தன் பொருளையும், தன் உபயோகிக்கும் கருவிகளையும், பிறர் கையில் கொடுத்து, (சோம்பி ) இருப்பவனும், பயனில்லாதவனே.

That person who gives away his tools of trade and his own wealth, in the hands of others to be used for his sake ( and lie lazy) is considered as a useless person.
