Is it safe to massage oil on body BEFORE shower.

This is to repair and maintain skin barrier (too much dry skin causing itching 24/7, USA Medicine is limited knowledge)

Can oil be rinsed off, because soap causes more itch and sadness.

Massaging body with oil before bath is an ancient practice. It’s called oil bath.Sadly the tradition doesn’t exist anymore due to lack of time and patience. It is now only confined for special occasions. There are tremendous benefits of taking oil bath and you can find a lot of old posts in IL. The oil is scrubbed off using ubtan/traditional bath powder instead of soap for a healthy glowing skin.

Warm water (40 to 45 C) is used in such showers. The oil coating on the body is somewhat removed by this warm water. And the oil/water mix splatters on the bathroom floor. Although we would rub our bodies with soap or the old fashioned soap-seed powder, rinse, and clean off to get a slick free surface on ourselves, a post-shower bathroom floor is definitely oil-slicky, and pretty unsafe. The one who takes the shower should spray the floor with a bathroom cleaner, and use the mop to clean the floor, so that it is safe for the next person who walks in there.
Sadness ? Yes, it would result in much sadness for the one who slips and falls.

Thank you for warning .... it is difficult to clean every so often.

    Body itch is unbearable.

Yesterday USA Dermatologist prescribed oral steroids to take for 3 weeks. Plus taking borage oil capsules for two months (have been taking for 3 weeks, 5 weeks to go) to fix the dry skin (that is causing systemic body itch, i.e. pruritus)

Crying every day. I barely leave my house.

You can oil before shower. Afterwards while your skin is still damp from the shower apply a nice layer of rich cream. I like the cocoa, shea and mango body butter from Body Shop. Eucerin, Cerave and Lubriderm are also good. The trick is to trap the moisture from your damp skin with the cream.

OP - as per the dermatologist I visited itchy and dry skin is caused due to less hemoglobin also. In that case oil massage will treat the symptoms only. I suggest try to find out the root cause first.

And if the itchy part is warmer than the surrounding area, dab itchy part with wet towel for a while. It stops itching for some time.
