    Priti,

Unless its true medical emergency, C-sections are to be avoided.
In Hyderabad, C-section rates are upto 70%.
I wont blame only the patients or the doctors entirely. I guess it is ignorance on the pregnant female's (I dont want to use the word patient, coz pregnancy is not a disease) and blind trust on doctor.
Doctor's prescribe C-section, coz its easy, less risky and obviously quick.
One of my friends did everything to avoid the C-section and had a beautiful pre-delivery experience. But at the time of delivery, there was so much of chaos and fear of unknown created by her family, hospital staff and the doctor that she could not think clearly, and got a C-section done as soon as it was offered by the doc.

Later she came to know that the doc performed C-section, coz she herself was pregnant, and didnt want to spend unpredictable hrs with mom-in-delivery.

I agree with the previous post. Long term studies have shown the high correlation between induction when there is no medical reason, to rates of cesarean operations.

In induction, hospitals use a drug called Pitocin or similar ones. These cause strong, continuous contractions, often leaving the baby with no chance to recover from each contraction, as natural hormone Oxytocin allows. During normal progress of labor, Oxytocin is produced in response to the sensation of pain. This allows the muscles to contract and relax in a smooth manner, though it may seem to be traumatic to an onlooker.

Pitocin usually has a side effect in that the baby's heart rate falls, leading to "fetal distress" which almost always leads to c-sections.

So my advice is that you be confident that you can give birth naturally, because that is what nature has perfected the mother's body to do for thousands of years. Attend a childbirth class and ask your doctor / hospital what is their commitment to supporting natural birth is. Do not fall into the trap of the "fear psychosis" created by the conventional medical system. Conduct your own due diligence and do your own research.

Re: chances of C-section with induced labor

I knew that I would have a c section the moment I knew I was pregnant and my Obstetrician, Dr Mustafa Ayad of the Jumeirah American Clinic in Dubai was very supportive as I was terrified of a normal birth.
