@IL_Admin, @Jey , @Induslady Hola! Its me! Me, again, the "Marcher", this time with an infallible suggestion. We have <quote> to cross refer to internal posts. Is it possible to add another tag, something like <cite> to cross refer to external links (articles, book excerpts etc). Today, we make subtle changes in the style and font of the text to indicate that the text is externally sourced (say, from wikipedia). Is it possible to add a new tag (behaviour: nuanced font and colour) to differentiate one's own writing from referenced writing. For example, <cite = Guardian linked article> I don't know why Iravati struggles so much in formatting her text. She should go and get a life. </cite> See, I am referring to this line in particular from the external link. Would you be able to approve the requirement, plan up, schedule resources, test and deploy by the end of the year? What is at stake? A rambler's muse is at stake. Please.
I knew that was coming so I surveyed the temperaments of the posters. In no particular order, the tagged posters may have something to say (please guys, say something) @Nonya cites passages from books and articles. She is another prolific citer like me. She rounds up the whole world from Albuquerque to Adelaide in her writing. @sokanasanah playfully dumps the contents of the entire encyclopaedia on unsuspecting posters. He might find this feature useful. @Cheeniya also, at times, cites from external links, now that we both have discovered a kindred animal world. I have seen @Viswamitra citing passages from books and articles. There may be others but I am not too familiar with their quirks and writing habits.
I think it’s a very useful feature. I do cite multiple sources and I usually just put the url up for people to go and sort through. I’m going to use this if it is available. I’m sure all the neurites and bibliophiles will use this feature. Thanks @Iravati for writing to request this.
I quote excerpts of texts from external links, and highlight that by using italics, indented paragraph,or a dark grey font, along with citing the source. It is kludgy. A "cite" tag would be useful. It would also be useful for members to use when they include entire posts from external links in their posts without citing the external source.
"Feeling the need for it" would never amount to speaking up, and asking for it; because, the indian ladies are raised to be adjust'able. You are dealt a hand, and you are asked to put your head down, bet your life on it, and get by. If Iravati wants a citing tool, and asks for it, and if it isn't too much trouble for the admin, she ought to have it. After all, Christmas is around the corner, and it would be nice to have one child get the gift she wants. As for the rest of us, we'd be pleased to get it; but then, if it ain't there, we'd likely get along without it.
Kitte tu? We are yet to gather our banners and megaphones for the "Citation March". (Hup hup hup!) @Jey , that counts as ten points, coming from a staff member and the FP winner. I want it now! I want it now! (rolling on the floor) I want it now! I want it now! (Holding my breath) I want it now! I want it now! (kicking my legs) I want it now! I want it now! (flaring my nostrils) I want it now! I want it now! (running out of huffy tantrum display ideas)
