Hi Friends, We are planning to go to Tirupathi in first week of November, from there we have plans to visit Kamkshi Amma temple in Kanchipuram.I am thinking of buying one or two silk sarees there. this is the first time we are visiting Kanchi. could you please share the tips/Do's/Don'ts while visiting Kanchi and also tips for shopping - preferably address, any bargains, how to be careful about the references given by autowalas or rickshawalas :spin. can we get room near kamakshi amma temple ? any other tips will be helpful, Most importantly I dont know Tamil :hide:, can we manage in Telugu or other language ? if you want the saree to stay long for years buy in govt society.. Aringnar Anna society is the best... for varities you have to dig a lot... If you are fine little bit with the quality you can try in any private shops. In any shops you can select sarees and ask them to keep it seperately and tell you will come back soon. They will keep it by the side... So that you can go to other shops to see the collections

There are lot of lodges and hotels in kanchipuram, so stay wont be a problem and the hotels for eating are also much better than chennai in terms of number and taste according to me. May be you can hire a car and have a round to all temples in the city, that will be good way of covering many more temples. Do visit the kailashnathar temple built by pallavas. Pachaiyappas has good collections and the price is fixed unlike other shops. I have bought nearly 10 silk sarees at various times there in the range 3000 to 4000.

Please do not call this number listed above; these ppl are agents/brokers. i called this number and she(Sasi kala) is redirecting me to agents as doubted. people who are from other states wishing to buy Kanchipuram sarees can check out in Thiruvallur and Anna societies for a safer bet. Also beware there are many fake shops running in the name of these societies. Otherwise, please check in shops referred by your local friends.
